Thanks to the generous invitation from the Australian Motorcycle News, Dave Roper, Maurice Candy and I will be heading over together to OZ to race in the Phillip Island Classic, January 24, 25 and 26th, 2014. It an honor to be included in such a great event. The Australian organization has great racing camaraderie, arranging for a container of bikes from the US to Australia and back to compete in this event.

Please, come down and say hello. Roper and I will be pitted in a garage, not sure which one yet, but should be easy to spot.

Acotrel - this is your chance to show us how early you can get on the throttle.

See you there.

-Kenny C.

Great news Kenny! PI is a fantastic track, brilliant spectator site on a clear sunny day. Watch those winds straight off the ocean. I'll be there on my Commando and will wander through the pits to say hello.
Cheers,
Mick

Will be good to meet you, Mick.

Here's a blog post with video link of our G50 getting stretch-wrapped before loading onto the container last November (the bike is already in Melbourne).

broken link removed

Roper and I depart in 10 days. Can't wait!

I hope you all enjoy yourselves there, I used to go every year. I like to have a look at the bikes and if the Brits etc. are there, the racing is worth watching. It costs a bomb for me to get there, however I hope to be able to find enough readies to ride at the Austin 7 Club meeting at Winton next May. Incidentally getting on the throttle early doesn't help you much at Phillip Island. Most of the bends are very high speed sweepers and if your bike is quick steering it is not so good. A crash there is always a big one, and I don't think I could get my head around racing there these days. The kids with the superbikes love it because the speeds are so high and relatively safe, however you have to watch yourself there - don't have a get-off.

Ken, I wish you and Dave Roper the best of luck at Phillip Island. Racing there is way beyond my means these days. I'm struggling to get to the Austin 7 historic meeting at Winton next May, and it is only 11 Km from home. Take your sunscreen with you , don't forget to wear a hat and drink plenty of water. Don't fall off, the island is too fast for that - however it is very safe otherwise. I'm sure you will have a lovely time.

Gday Kenny, hope to catch up and watch you do your stuff at PI. Had a ball the last time I visited, met up with Steve Maney but sadly it all didnt go to plan for him! :? Hopefully the weather holds out and conditions are good for some exciting racing! Anyone else going from the forum? I've got a leave pass at this stage ML!

For those heading down to the Island Classic - watch out for the plod chaps, big HWP presence on the Sth Gippy and Bass Hwy this morning. Saw one cam car at Cranny too, bet there's more along the way.

Going to be a bit of rain tomorrow, but after that, some really nice weather!

Thanks Dave, me and Foxy will be heading down tomorrow morning. He's on his way from Mildura, Sunday should be a cracker of a day.

Yep rain's gone (touch wood) and the weekend's going to be pretty warm.
Just blown all my bike dollars on getting the Norton re-reg'd so won't be at the races, but will take the old gal round to the Island tomorrow morning and check out the scene.

Hows our intrepid pilot doing ?

Have we sent a team to cross the hondas plug leads , let the yamahas tyres down , drain the kawas oil & block the yams mufflers with potatoes . :p

Failing this , He will have to ride faster & better longer . Hope theres Norton Cam aiming Fwd , recording picking off the opposition .

Myself and Joe Fox were at PI for Saturday and Sunday, took a million photos, met up with Kenny and Dave Roper (my historic racer hero) and others notably John McGuiness and just had a great time. The US delegation was huge, what a turn out! Weather was perfect, scenery superb, heaps of gorgeous bikes and the racing was excellent. Plus the benefit of fanging the Commando there and back each day, winding up with the usual drinks and BBQ.

Anyway, we'll sort out some pix and post them up.

Cheers,
Mick

I don't think Steve Wynne was that musical.
Excellent history setting Ducati all the same.

Thanks for posting the photos. I see you've got some of the two speedway sidecar outfits my brother built - 880 JAP and Vincent. Hope you liked them, they are worth looking at ?

ML,
Can you tell me any more info about that Domiracer in your photos?
Thanks
Jeff
