Peripherial Neuropathy

My feet are getting so numb, I can't feel the gas pedal in my truck. I'll probably have to quit driving before I quit riding.

Difficult.... but you still judge distances with your eye , for instance , do not judge how hard youare braking by how much pressure you are applying, but by the stoppng distance you think you might need...

I think some vehicles had hand throttles years ago... why not modify and go back.?

My dad had to have clutch pedals in the LHdrive position as he could not sit with his legs together

Danno, I think oldmikew may have a point…

Many years ago when I was younger and even stupider, I broke my foot and had to have a plaster cast from below the knee to the base of my toes.

So, no ankle movement and no sensitivity or ‘feeling‘ etc in that foot. And it was the right foot, that does the accelerating and braking.

But I still drove, probably shouldn’t have done really, but I could, and I did.

So I think you have hope.

I lived with pain from injuries for several years. I did not use pain killers. If you adjust to pain, it will diminish. The problem is the effects of pain are very subtle. It seems to undermine your psychology, even when you don't really feel it. After I had my knee operation, it was not about pain, but my outlook on life was different. Even after 40 years, I can still feel my dislocated collar bone. I know I have it even though the pain has gone.
Regarding pain (not from trauma) but from medical conditions that do not "heal" up like a broken bone.
On the www.advrider.com site, I read a post that struck a chord with me:

"Ongoing pain is an Express Train to depression."

I've always been a strong willed, self reliant person, and push through anything, but that phrase has stuck in my mind. To at least be aware of it. Watch for it.

Benfotiamine eliminated the “pins and needles” of my peripheral neuropathy. It’s OTC, not a pain reliever but a neural supplement

Well I’ve had my dramas in the last week. Underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (keyhole surgery for a 68mm kidney stone)
Things didn’t go as planned and they breached my pleura (lung lining) and pumped 950ml of water into my left lung.
Quite painful but drained now and am recovering - looking forward to getting back on the bike later this week
Cheers
(sorry for the momentary derail but not worth creating a new thread - and the procedure sounds similarish)

Peripheral neuropathy has been associated with hexane solvent which can occur in petrol.

Did you write that correctly… 68mm ?!

Yep - big bastard. Strangely not to much pain.
Not a solid lump. Called a “staghorn” - calcium lining of the various ports. Took 3.5 hours under the knife/machine.
Wow, that sounds bloody horrific.

I might try that. Side effects sound manageable. My ex-mother outlaw used to give herself B1 shots to cure hangovers (she was a nurse).

I have been reading this thread with great curiosity. My wife has painful feet. It's the tops of them usually and the pain happens when she is resting as welt as when she is standing and walking. She has seen a podiatrist with no results and she has almost given up hope of finding a fix. She has tried many shoes and many inserts but nothing seems to work. She is starting to have knee problems as well but she is not sure if this is due to how she is walking from the feet issue.

It is weird the we are the same age as old people!

Definitely in the "better you than me" category. Hope you are back on track soon @robs ss .
Ditto ...that does sound very "Un-Fun" there robs ss!!! I've just had my right shoulder patched up after waiting 2 years to get to done. 4 pins along with a relocated bicep tendon, 6 weeks in a sling, I'm "uncomfortable" to say the least. But Hopefully on track as the surgery went well.

I've been diagnosed with ideopathic peripheral nueropathy. Looked up ideopathic, means "we don't have a clue what caused it". I'm not diabetic and I have good circulation in my legs. The neurologist tested me by using probes to test nerve pathways. Basically pins and needles feeling in the feet and toes. Not bad enough to bother me much but could get worse. If you have a similar sounding condition see a neurologist. Primary care and podiatrists don't have the equiptment to properly diagnose.
