Any of you old farts out there have this? I've been having trouble with my feet for maybe 10 years, started like I just don't want to stand up/around. All I want to do is sit down. Not that I can't walk, but my feet hurt all the time, even in bed. So couple years ago I went to the neurologist dr, to the foot dr, gp dr, it's like I'm the only person in the world with this issue. Finally the other day I go to a local Orthopedic surgeon and he 'suspects PN (nebulous term for something they don't know). Gave me a prescription for Gabepenten (Neronton). It's mostly for people with epilepsy, but it also seems to work with nerve issues. I've taken it before when I had fractured neck/arm pains and it didn't do crap, I have nerve issues in my left hand/arm from the neck injury in 05. Anyhow I'm going to try it again because now the pains are going up near my knees and it's very tiresome, won't leave me alone, wakes me up at night. He told me to work up to 3 pills a day, but I'm going to try 2 a day for a while and see what happens. I'm only on the 2nd day. I do seem to notice a different feeling in my feet, but I don't want to feel my feet all the time. I don't have diabetes which is a big cause of this.

I'd like to hear of others with this issue, if there are any. I can still start the Norton though, just did it the other week, didn't ride however. I can walk miles too, but my legs are not what they used to be and feet of course get real tired, I think it's the nerves in the legs going with this PN crap/age.

Can't help you Dave, but just letting you know I feel for you.
I'm working on making a low-profile, ride-on paddock starter for a bloke I know who would like to ride but can't kickstart any more.
I'll send some pics when done if you're interested?

Cannot really help you with this as I'm not a doctor, but for what it's worth, it sounds like you have some form of nerve issues.
Have you looked up Chinese acupuncture to see if they have any past treatment for this?

I’m part way there, I’ve got partial peripheral neuropathy. Both feet can be a bit numb and tingly, it’s worse in the winter with the cold. I’m told it’s down to reduced blood flow at the extremities and severe cases get similar in the fingers. With me it’s as a side effect of diabetes. It does sound like yours is more pronounced compared to mine. Today, now the weather is warming up, it’s not too bad, but last winter it wasn’t pleasant. I’m also told once the nerves have gone they’re gone.

OK, I freely admit that I know nothing so don't slam.

AFAIK, PN generally makes your feet and/or hands tingle or numb, not painful. My wife had it from cancer treatments - a very common problem for cancer patients.

My feet, especially my right one were hurting a LOT, especially in the ball of my foot near the 3rd and 4th toe. Initially I thought I had a bruise but it kept getting worse and started hurting even when not standing/walking. It was called Morton's Neuroma. Neuroma basically means tumor, but it's not a really a tumor - it's inflammation of a bundle of nerves and can happen in several locations in the feet. I'm told that if allowed to go on long enough, it can become permanent. I started seeing a Podiatrists (foot doctor) and he started weekly steroid injections into the area of the nerve bundle. Took months but it is completely gone now. While I seeing him for my right foot, it started in my left - that he knocked quickly - if I remember right, in three weeks.

Caution, a podiatrists is a doctor like a dentist is a doctor - the ortho should know much more but mine told me that he only worked above the ankle. In the US, Podiatrists are only allowed to work from the ankle down.

Sometimes a medical masseuse can work wonders.

I suffered from a pain in my wrist for about 5 months. Was told it was everything from bursitis to gout to hairline bone fracture to maligned cervical disc.

Two one hour sessions with a medical masseuse and it was gone.

I now see the guy every other week just to maintain wellness.

I went to a podiatrist, he works in the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Center in Fairfax, Dr. Neufeld's practice. Neufled works on ankles etc. My wife had a bad fall couple years ago (like 10-12' into an open storm drain) and shattered most of the bones in her ankle. They put it back together in FL at a trauma center, but she was in a wheelchair/walker most of the time, so she had her ankle replaced by this guy, Suggested by this Ortho guy I saw in Middleburg. Anyhow, the foot guy that looked at me did x-rays and saw there is of course arthritis in my large toe joints. He tried some cortisone injections that did nothing so I gave up on that. But he had no ideas other than orthopedic pads of course. He did recommend a brand of shoes that help a bit. But recently it's just gotten much worse, the ache goes up near my knees, like in the bones. After a couple days with this Gabapenten my feed to feel 'different', we'll see, I'll give it a month and then go back to a neurologist I saw a year or so ago. He suggested walking with a cane then, but I really never feel the need.

I don't especially feel numb, tingling, etc, it's just foot pain when I walk or stand, mostly standing. The process of walking seems to get my mind off it. In bed it's just like I feel my feet all the time, not enough to keep me from sleeping but if I wake up it's bothersome. Sometimes I take an anxiety pill (X anax) that puts me back to sleep, but I've been stopping those. Sitting around is not too bothersome, but I notice it.

I'm pretty sure it's just the nerves going because the legs just seem to be getting weaker and weaker, but maybe it's just age/attrition. It's been going on for about 10 years now so it's not real fast. I'll try some of these other things too if this pill doesn't work, I really hate taking pills, but I do it.

Neurology center did some nerve conduction studies on me and didn't find anything significant.

Just whining, wife says I'm especially good at that.

I have neurological issues as well. My toes tingle and my equilibrium / balance is off. I feel like I'm drunk all the time. Doc says my brain doesn't know what my feet are doing.

They've done nerve conduction tests on my legs and MRI on my neck and brain and everything came back "normal for my age". I think I have a pinched nerve in my lower back that's at the root of it since I have bad back pain too. Not sure what the treatment will be. A Physical Therapist gave me excersises to stretch the back and legs but it's not really helping.

Biggest fear fo me is not being able to ride the Norton. Balance is required for that and mine sucks.

Isn't it weird being the same age as old people?

My broken fibula has weird issues that really seem to be making it heal up slow. Still quite swollen and gets aggravated most days when I've been walking & working.

I sure miss being 50...

A ride buddy 65+ suffers with some type of neuropathy in legs and feet he rides regular and drops his gt 800 just as regular he has learned to roll away from bike , he always rides with panniers attached , before this bike it was a 650 v-strom which touched even more often .... he is very much a good sport to continue riding , we all make allowances when riding with him and always pitch in to get him and bike , always low speed parking lot drops .....

Not a doc, but my dad started having degenerative spinal issues (lots of pain in back and legs, lumbar vertebrae issues) about the time he developed diabetes. Had one successful fusion (L3-5) operation, then 3 - 4 years later, the quack tried to fuse L2 & 1 to the already fused group. When dad came out of the anesthesia, the doc told him "sorry, I damaged your sciatic nerve, it will never recover, you'll slowly lose feeling, strength, and use of your legs over the next few years.

The result was horrible for the pain in his legs (he developed symptoms slowly). Just the weight of a bedsheet on his legs below the knee made it feel like someone poured boiling water on them. His diabetes developed at about the same rate. They tried Neurontin and it seemed to give him relief on the pain front but it seemed to me that the side effects were worse in a spectrum of different ways. Maybe the diabetes would have torn him up as badly as the Neurontin but I vowed I would never take it.

Just what I've seen. Oh, FWIW, the only thing that seemed to really offer him any relief was losing 20 or more pounds and that was a dramatic improvement for quite a while (he was severely overweight, 290 or so pounds, which probably worsened the spinal deterioration and the diabetes so YMMV on this part).

(Note: Not a doc, I've just seen it up close and personal.)

Yes.

And feck Gabby, like an acid trip for me.

concours, yeah the last time I took this stuff it gave me very strange dreams, that's why I quit. That's why I'm going slow on it. Doc told me to take 1 first day, 2 second 3 third day and continue. I'm holding at 2 to see what happens. So far nothing. I'm willing to give it a try at this point if it will help. But there may be nothing to do but deal with it.

My cancer treatment causes neuropathy in my feet and also hands to a lesser degree. I have it less than others, but really annoying. You toes are like sticks with no feeling and hard to tell where your feet are. I have to be very careful riding my pushbike, because my feet move off the pedals a bit without knowing it. Occasional pain like being stuck with pins. Oncologist has given me Pregabalin-DRLA. Seemed to work, but I haven't needed it much fortunately. I hope things work out for you.

Fortunately I have no problems starting the 69. But my age has me scared. Of course the docs tell me not to ride and climb on ladders. Unfortunately I've been on more ladders than riding. But I did get 5 gallons of 112LL last week, just in case. they didn't have the 110LL. It was $4 more. They have like 240 octane stuff at the Sunoco station. I don't even want to know what that costs.

Do you get pain or stiffness in the kidney area ?, I understand that poor kidney function can cause a back up of toxins in the blood that can damage the nerves that serve the lower limbs. I suffer with stones , 5 on the go at the moment and regularly loose the use of a leg.. .....

Oh, man. every time I go to the doc, my blood work is fine, no diabetes, BP is 120/70 (with pills), HR 60, kidney function is good, I've been inspected, detected, and rejected. Had the blood flow to my feet and arms checked. They find nothing. Sometimes I think they believe I'm a hypochondriac. But I've been avoiding them for a couple years now, nothing has changed. After all they do 'practice' medicine. Beginning to think going to docs is a waste of time.

I kind of put it to that car accident I had in 05 when I fractured my neck and was off work for 3 months. Nothing has been the same since. I'm just living with it as best as I can.

It was 70F today and I had thoughts of the Norton, but I got sidetracked with other stuff. We'll see, it's supposed to be a good week. I can hear the speed demons on Hume road sometimes when I'm outside.
