I need to pole a few owners here. Feedback is required.

We are currently making COPPER CORE PLUG SETS for local Norton 961 Owners. The way it works; we have to re-use the BOSCH STYLE ends that come on the 961 and solder them onto the copper core plugs. It has been very challenging to source JUST THE BOSCH STYLE 90° ENDS until now (finally).

Our motto is quality first, then best price for best quality. As it stands, the copper cores are much more expensive than conventional (most people probably know that already) and these ends are expensive and not easy to find with out the rest of the plug wire attached. Then add the work involved to cut to length, solder them together, package and ship. We found a company in Germany who will make these for us in a nice package already if we buy a minimum amount.

My bike has the NGK copper cores and the Bosch Coil and It was night and day improvement. My dad too, and about 12 others we know. Definitely worth the upgrade for smoother running.

QUESTION:
What do you think is a fair price for a pre-made "Plug-and-play" performance wire set (2 wires - one for each cylinder) for your 961?

I value your honest feedback.
Thank you in advance,

Richard,

At Pep Boys a set of two copper core lines runs about $40.00
This is retail, and they probably buy the stuff from a supplier in large quantities.

Hand made to order, in attractive colors, correct length for a 961, maybe $65-$80 USD would be reasonable.

Just tell me the price and a check is on the way for 3 sets. I would also like you to send 2 replacement coil sets, since you already have the source, and I am too f**king busy (or lazy, you choose) to do my own procurement.

Richard, you and your Dad are such a benefit to this section of the board.

Thanks for all you do

John

Thank you John. Once the 90° ends are in I`ll let you know.

Also, Because of low volume do you like RED or BLACK.

.

Confusing, it took me a while to figure out you were talking about plug wires.

I would like to order 2 sets of plug wires. I would like red but black is acceptable.

I have no idea what these things cost because small volumes of custom products cost much more than stock items.

I cannot help with cost estimates and price is not a concern to me.

Thanks for doing this Richard!

SBN did charge me $119 for a set of (blue) plug wires which I just mounted. I am wondering if I will notice a change...

If I would have known, I should have ordered the red ones from you, Richard.
Let us know your price and I will tell friends.

I just re-read what I wrote -- I agree it's confusing! Sorry about that. My mind goes faster than I can type. I should take a typing class..

PLUG WIRE SETS -- not PLUGS SETS.. :(

FYI on pricing. When I had my 961 SE prepped for delivery back in May, I had South Bay Norton install their "Ignition Upgrade Kit". This consisted of retaining the stock 961 coil (unmarked), replacing the stock plugs with NGK CR9EIX, and installing new performance coil wires and boots. The coil wires are blue like the NGK performance wires, but are marked with something else. The installed price of the ignition upgrade was $149. I've also since upgraded the coil with the Bosch 0 221 503 035. I meant to take pics of the wires and boots when I upgraded the coils, but I forgot. I'll do that and post it on the forum.

Thank you kindly for that info. What are your honest reviews since these upgrades? I noticed a better stronger idle and the bike seemed to run a lot smoother. A definite difference but I don't have a dyno, so I don't have actual data to support what I experienced.

Richard,

When SBN was telling me about their ignition upgrade option, they said it was worth "4 hp in performance improvement over stock", and I believe they said that was measured in their own dyno testing. Since I received the ignition upgrade prior to my bikes delivery, I have only ridden it with the upgraded plugs and plug wires and have no other reference. However, when I installed the coil per your coil upgrade manual section, I noticed a definite improvement in starting and cold idle, and an subjectively perceived improvement in performance in the mid-to-higher-range rpms. I haven't put my bike on a dyno yet, but I intend to do so within the next month or so, if I can get the local Harley dealer and their dyno department to accommodate me. I'll let you know what it measures. Thanks so much for all your continued helpful feedback!

Richard, When you have them ready I'll be glad to buy the set up from you. Red or black wires is ok by me. Thanks for all you do to help everyone.

Won't be long until they are available. Everything is dialed in now. More details to follow.
