I'm going to convert the MK111 to earlier models style upswept peashooters but I need a couple of support plates (where the mufflers attach) to the 4 sided diamond shape flat plates. Some flat plates were chromed , some earlier ones not. I want the chromed type so does anyone know the part no. ? Also I will need the studs that screw in to the mufflers for the 2 support plates. Enjoy.

If you convert to peashooters then you need all three peashooter plates each side so six plates.

"Brushed finish" stainless from RGM:

An alternative would be to make two adaptor plates to replace the 'diamond' plates.

06.1721 is the number I need , thanks LAB. They are out of stock. They look like they might be chromed. Any no. for the studs into the peashooters or can I use stainless bolts instead ?

Do you understand you need all three plates and not just the diamond-shaped plate as the black-cap plates are a different set of three?

I think they are zinc plated.

Or you can use bolts.

The AN ones are matte chrome finish, not polished.

I didn’t like the new AN stock matte chrome ones as I had become rather attached to the chromy look. So, I had the lot re-chromed.

The ones I bought were zinc plated (might not have been from AN?) and did not look good next to the chrome exhaust so I replaced them with RGM stainless plates which were polished at that time and not 'brushed'.

Stainless sets are readily available and are eminently better suited to resist environmental conditions. They also end up being a better value than chroming/re-chroming which will cost more than 6 new stainless plates.

The ones from AN are matte chrome, per Madnorton.

I got two full sets done for the min charge, IIRC $100.

I had mine chromed too. Don't remember the cost, they were in a batch of stuff I had done at the time.

Hey TO,

I’m sure I have lots of those in a box in the shop, should be a pair with decent chrome. PM me your address and I’ll hook you up.

Wasn't there an option to use offset brackets to allow peashooters to sit more inboard, giving better kick starter clearance? Was supplier old britts ?

Also, if your Mk3 has the standard kickstart then it shouldn't need more clearance.

I ended up with a similar resolve, but by shortening the threaded stand offs on the mufflers themselves. 15 minutes with a careful hand on the grinder and a dab of cold galvy paint on the end. 1974 850, same dogleg shaped kicker as MKIII, minus the spring/ball detent.

I cleaned, buffed and did a clear powder coat on mine. I thought they looked pretty good and didn't think a chrome job was needed because, to me, not much of the part was actually seen.

After seeing Gortnipper's pics they may end up on my winter upgrade list.

Has anyone had problems with chrome cracking or peeling when a fastener is torqued up on a chrome surface? I often put a fiber washer between the steel washer and the chrome surface before tightening.

The polished chrome plates that were on the bike when I purchased it in the late 80s were likely Domiracer parts, and the chrome was very thin and did blister around the the mounting holes.

The ones I have just had made seem much thicker, and I dont think that will happen.

Always use the rounded side of a flat washer against it, never a split washer.
