Hi . Pazon question here. The electric ignition system doesn't plug into my wiring loom right? Just the white wire to the handlebar kill switch, black to coil, red to earth and other 2 to trigger right? Just wondering if anything else needs to be wired in. I bought a new Lucas loom for my 72 Commando and upgraded the ignition.

The white wire goes to the battery via the ignition switch, at least that is the way I did it on my 72. Kill switch = ignition switch?
The other important point is to wire up coils correctly, is it series or parallel, I can't remember but there are very good idiot (me) proof diagrams on the interweb

I have the single coil from CNW.

Any good? I have stuck to the 6v coils, seem to work okay.

I like the dual output coil because of its compactness which allows the plug leads to be routed neatly under the tank & loop around smoothly to the plugs, instead of being jammed against the rocker covers as happens with the twin coils.

@André Bourbonnais as we know your handlebar switches are not in perfect condition ;) it’s best to take a white wire from the big connector under the tank to the white feed on the Pazon.

You can easily swap back to the handlebar switch if you decide to go for the cNw unit later on.

Black to the coil negative, and red to positive earth (you can use a ring terminal on the coil here too, and it will be nice and neat) and you’re ready to rock!

You can’t be far off getting it started now!

@Steves a lot of people like the original coils because they feel the look is one of the things that defines a Commando.

However, if you’re a neat freak, and want a nice and simple setup, I can’t help but think the twin output single coil is the way to go!

Yes, but unfortunately the positioning of the coils that we have come to know is also a reminder that the original Commando frame was prone to breaking. The original Commando did have its coils tucked away neatly, but they were moved downwards when the bracing tube was added to stop the frame from breaking.

So a neatly positioned coil is actually true to the original Commando concept!
