I have a 750 Commando with a 10 year old Pazon Sure Fire ignition. It ran great for 5 years, but then the bike had been off the road 5 years. After a rebuild and finally trying to start it, I found no spark, and the malfunction seems to be down to lack of magnetism in the ignition rotor. Has anyone experienced this? I am wondering what I did to de-magnetise it. Time alone seems unlikely to cause this, no? I have a question out to Pazon if it is possible to re-magnetise it.

the two magnets are held in place with some kind of ring and should be removeable.
doesnt pazon sell the rotor as a spare part?

If you are going to put your bike in long term hibernation its best to remove the rotor and fix a steel nut to each magnet. Magnets will degrade if they don't cling onto something.

cliffa.

On the Pazon Surefire rotor the round magnets are held in by a STEEL circlip. You really should not need to do that!

Thanks, when I emailed Pazon, Andy replied the next day and said they have only had one or two others do this. I have the same ignition on a Triumph T100 and pulled the rotor from that and the Norton started second kick.
I am grateful for the troubleshooting steps listed on the Pazon web site that allowed me to diagnose the problem and still think it is a great ignition. Pazon sell rotors separately, and Andy offered to replace the magnets in mine, but advised against trying to remagnetize the current ones.
I am just a little curious as to why this happened. I guess I don't know enough about magnetism to understand it. I had the rotor underneath a bench sort of close to where a wire feed welder was operating, but it's not like I did a ton of welding in the interval.
My son watches a show "Stranger Things" where magnets lost magnetism due to the presence of aliens and an alternate dimension. So I guess there's that.
