I recently acquired a 2013 Norton 961 Sport. Beautiful bike but could do with some upgrading.
I went through the “New to 961” thread and will be following much of the advice there, but as far as exhaust and tunes, carbon fibre bits, chain guards and so on, where the hell do I go?
Any help here would be great.
does South Bay Norton still produce anything and do they have a new shop?

Welcome Jimmy. I'm putting together a list of maintenance parts here...

For exhausts, you can either Contact Norton direct parts@nortonmotorcycles.com or Olly Thiel at https://www.thiel-motorsport.de/

Can't advise on South Bay, sorry.

Cheers,

cliffa.

This is great, thanks. I was going through your list a few days ago. It’s great to see it coming together.
Looks like South Bay is long out of business and the exhausts are nowhere to be found.
I’ve spoken with 3 different performance motorcycle shops in the area and they don’t have much confidence in anything regarding the Norton. I see a trend developing :)

What exhaust do you need ? Richard7 can unlock and reprogram ECU
The stock exhaust is on it now. I was looking to upgrade and reprogram. Mostly for sound improvement as it is so quiet and doesn’t do the bike justice. Preferably a full front to back system with a cat and sensor delete.

just beware of ending up too loud, as several others have found, especially on longer runs.

No problem Jimmy. we need to stick together to keep these bikes on the road. I've only had my early bike since December '20 and love it. They are rarer than Vincents (but not as rare as Heskeths). Wherever I go people turn their head as I pass ( maybe that's because of the mechanical clatter  ) They are capable of high mileages once they are properly sorted.

Gutting the cat can be done..

and I have been told that you can free up the pipes up using an 18" extension and hole cutter like this...

Any issues with engine lights when doing this, I wonder? It only has pre cat sensors so my guess would be no.
the other reason for the necessary change in pipe is because it looks like the chain contacts the right side pipe at some point during suspension travel and there is almost an opening in the pipe. The pipe might be salvageable, but I’ll have to add a spacer to the hangars before putting too many more miles on it.

Hey Jimmy, I took mine to a motorcycle exhaust specialist and got them to modify the originals. Cats cut out completely and replaced with straight through pipe section. Left oxygen sensors in place. Cones removed, internals gutted, cones welded back on. Nice sounding, free breathing, original look. Bob‘s yer uncle! :D

Considering the latest financial statement is online, it would appear that Norton have £2.5 million of spares. Seeing as they haven't decided what to build in the future, one could assume these are 961 spares.

Wow, someone's been spending then...as that's a damn sight more than my held stock list for 18mnths ago is showing!

I think we can safely say there's been a whole lot of spending going on! Was looking at the new service area yesterday and it looks more like an operating theatre; quite a contrast to Donington!!! I think we might be surprised at how much has been going on in the background on various fronts.

£2.5m on spares for what though? By all accounts they've shelved every new model....so what are the spares for, 961?
The way its going, I wouldnt be surprised if we see an updated incarnation of the 961, unless they can design, r&d a totally new bike from scratch in an unbelievably short space of time.
