Paint recommendations...?

Chaps,

I’m looking to paint some alloy components in satin black. I want a thin but tough coat and was hoping to use a ‘one coat’ type paint that requires no primer or undercoat. It’s not engine cases, so no need to be heat proof. Also not really practical to heat the parts to cure the paint either.

So, any personal recommendations for an air drying, tough, one coat, satin black, rattle can paint, that will adhere well to aluminium?
Unless it has a catalyst (2 pack) as it's also known, aerosol air dried spray can paint will simply not hold up to fuel and other chemicals, not to mention may have adhesion problems, especially without an undercoat. You need to abrade the aluminum so it has lost its shine, roughs it up a bit and gives the finish something to "bite" into. You can use SEM aerosol Self-Etching primer after the parts are sanded and properly cleaned. Thin coat or two, that's it, likly you won't get 100% coverage and that's ok. Not needed. Eastwood makes some nice 2 pack aerosols that will have some chemical resistance and hold up better as well as biting into the self-etching primer, giving you a better bond. Just follow their label directions. Feel free to reach out to me direct if you have further questions or concerns
