Think Ducati, think Aston Martin , think Norton P 94 from 30k and 50k available 2017. It seems all Nortons resources are focused on the new models and the 961 could be phased out when it fails to meet modern emissions regs as stated in MCN October 2015, Euro5 might be hard to pass with this motor as other manufacturers are scraping existing models rather than spending money on them to be complient.

Are they fed up with the 961 and win on Sunday sell on Monday fits well with the V4 after a good show at the I.O.M . Or could we see a 650 Commando?

Re: P94 ,961 and the great unwashed

Latest interview seems to indicate the 961 is here to stay for the foreseeable future.

P94 ,961 and the Euro5

Glad to see the 961 is here for the future. But when every other motorcycle manufacturer is jumping through hoops for Euro5 there is no mention of it in that whole article.

If Harley can do it with their 1800cc mechanical mammoths... There's plenty of hope for Norton...!

A sound answer Nigel I believe the H.D development on this was called "project Rushmore" maybe because it was concerning the heads! Nothing to do with the fact it took years ,cost a fortune and all you had left at the end was worse than you started with.

I can't see the Brit environmental maniacs worrying about a few hundred 961's produced per year.
Didn't Norvil receive an environmental exclusion to build 100 new/old 850 Nortons per year?
Once the new Norton models are introduced customer interest will certainly move to them, and away from the 961.
All Norton would have to do with the 961, if the 961 is still in demand, is drop the HP a bit to improve emissions.
The new models will be the modern performance machines, and will define the company's future success.

It's easy enough to continue choking off bikes more and more to meet emissions standards, then the buyers simply fit up correct aftermarket bits and ride away happy.

I see this popular drive to expel overbearing government as a GOOD thing. It will help in this area, in particular.

Paul ,do you mean "cheat" the omissions ? I think you have been beaten to that one by Volkswagen Audi , what was it $10.2 billion in pay offs to owners and more to come in fines that could run into the tens of billions. I think the O.B.M will sort that one out so tampering will be easier to detect and fines could be higher.

Maybe that is why Norton got the government grant to help develop a complient engine. It is not just exhaust emissions that will be monitored but also engine breathers etc.

MCN article

Have a look at the right end of the red commandos in the back ground. Looks more retro than ours. Rather 70's. Anyone know what it is?

All three in the background are Dreer 961 prototypes.
