Hi All,

I was going to take my P11 Ranger 750 for an MoT tomorrow, but on checking it over I think the rubber or cork
sealing band inside the petrol tank cap has disintegrated and is no more. I assumed it was a cork one originally
due to the light brown residue, but this might be the remains of adhesive.

It is (was!!!) a thin ring of rubber/cork about OD = 2 1/2 " and ID = about 2 "
However a cork replacement would be difficult to fit as it needs to be stretched into place.

The petrol tank cap is hinged at the rear and has a two blade propeller on top to tighten it shut

Does a Ceandess type rubber sealing washer fit ?

Does anybody know the part number for the sealing washer?
And who has any in stock? (Preferably in the UK)

Thanks

The original gasket on that cap was a heavy gasket paper, about 2-3/8" outer diameter and and 1-1/8" inner diameter. It was placed inside the cap, the locking disc placed over the stub of the wing nut, then the stub peened over to lock the disc to the wing nut. The inner diameter was just large enough to allow venting through the corresponding pin holes in the cap.
To replace this gasket, one could grind the stub down, pull off the locking disc, replace the gasket, drill and tap the wing nut shaft to accept a short truss head or pan washer head machine screw. This screw would lock the disc to the wing nut and allow future gasket replacement.

Or you could buy a replacement filler cap from AMC Classic Spares in Beds., part number 033001, for a little over 10 pounds. (Ph. 01462 811770)
