I've re posted this video here so as not to derail norlucks EV post
For those of us that live long enough at least we will be able to tell tales to our grandchildren of personal vehicle ownership!

It sounds extreme but there's a lot of truth in it.
Those of us that are in our 60's shouldn't have much to be concerned with, cause other then losing resale value we'll be ready to hang our helmets by the time this is in full effect. And we have to admit....It's been a fun ride.

For most the Rivers of Bicycles look good until they pull up at the corner and they are puffed
and sweating. Sure, some are Ironmen (and women) but the vast majority of the population is
not going to be able to dump the car for a pushbike. What? No worries, it will be an ELECTRICAL
BIKE you say! OK now launch into the winter weather in the dark headed to work tired and distracted
and facing hordes of others. Great for the 24 year old but not so those over 40 I can tell you.
This is the big thing that I never see discussed.

The UK would be bankrupt if people were not allowed to have personal transport. So many things rely on it, from getting to work, to shopping, visiting attractions, going on holiday etc etc. All of those things would be curtailed severely and some would cease to exist, country pubs and National Trust are just two examples.

The whole premise supposes that this government are a) looking that far ahead and b) intelligent enough to have those sort of plans. Given their recent behaviour I can't see either of those things in evidence. A lot of these ideas are dreamed up by people who live and work in London where there is great public transport and you can live without personal transport. Outside of London it is a completely different story but politicians often forget that.

I do agree that battery powered vehicles for everybody is not the solution.

Ah! But you'll all be working from home by then, just like in the pandemic.....
It's all part of the overall plan (along with the next generation's addiction to their hand held devices) to stop you looking out of the window..
That way you'll never notice the country sliding down the pan!

The repercussions of this can not be understated
Most people when they get a bike like to change exhaust cans, hand grips, indicators etc etc if this goes through you can forget any changes whatsoever
Also there is talk of making this legislation retro !
If true this would take all of my bikes off the road

I just can't get my head around a Commando or Ducati minus the scream..... As far as relying on anything electrical for transport.... we here had a taste of the green energy reliability for power last winter, so allow the folks that want go with it and leave those that don't alone.... Kinda sorry for interjecting my $.02.

Just how would it be enforced? And what is the point ? Motor bikes are not much of an environmental problem.
Are we to be swept off the road tomake way formore killer cars?
In the small village where i live to cross the road usually involes waiting for 20 -30cars topass. Its busier than the m1 when it first opened...

I'm assuming it'd be enforced by MOTs or if the bike or car were involved in an accident and it had an aftermarket part fitted it would not be insured ?

No, the proposal has been amended to not include classics. In fact it does not stop anything we currently do. If anything it consolidates what we do, fit a quieter end can that produces more power and the same emissions then you dont have a problem. Fit a quieter end can that is quieter and reduces power you'll be in trouble.
When you read the proposal there is no problem, anything you do must enhance or exceed specification.
The proposal is part of a wider idea that the UK will adopt alongside EU that vehicle manufacturers will be responsible for the emissions and safety of the vehicle from cradle to grave. At the moment the EU has a problem as the manufacturers have said no problem, provided ANY item fitted to the vehicle has approval from the manufacturer and rightly so.

Personally if I am still riding in 15 years time at the age of 90 I will be very happy to be using one of my Honda 125s. Any journey under twenty miles the Super Cub or CT 125 is the one I choose now as apart from the motorway most of the roads are 20-60 mph limits. You must also realise that as electric cars take over petrol supplies will be a lot more expensive and less common, the government needing to fill their dwindling coffers at every opportunity. We have a golden age at the moment of tax free classics, freedom to use on a daily basis and relatively cheap fuel but as more cities introduce low emission zones we will be under the threat of being legislated to use them only at weekends and for classic shows. Sorry for being pessimistic but this may be the future, make the best of it now while we can. Witness many motorhome users now having to store them away from their homes in London, being charged to drive through Bath, and Greater Manchester proposing charges for its Zone.

The golden age is surely past. Currently we have to survive the CAR. and not perish in the wake of the problems it undoubtedly causes. The mentality problem we face is that of resentment..If i cant drive my car why should you be able to use your bike.

and there was me thinking this is our future...

And of course this bullshit will only impact on the west, the 'third world' will take no notice and become ever stronger

Unfortunatey its not bullshit... the problem bikers face is to survive others panic.
