I took the plunge & coughed up for the KEIS heated jacket & gloves , & must say it does what it says on the tin ,I have an optimate lead already from the battery so just got a special fused adaptor to hook up to the kit.It does come with a fused direct kit to go straight to the battery but that’s on the explorer.Low medium & high settings to keep yer toasty, particularly noticeable on lower back, cuffs & neck collar , & forgive the pic of moir sporting my latest “ Norton” apparel !

Hi ya Tony , was going crop/trim the picture with out my face on , but thought that may too much like a contact magazine image ( been told there like that ) anyway yes it’s great gear , my get the trousers & socks next that all plug in to each other , life time guarantee on the heater elements , going up the alps next tear on the explorer , so may need them

Hi Richard. I also have the keis heated jacket. I went to the Elephanttruffen in Bavaria in February . Minus 10 on the ride down never had to turn it above the medium setting. Great bit of kit . I see your other bike is a tiger as is mine .

Ah wamth , at a certain age it becomes a lifeline. I have been using Gerbing gear for about fifteen years now and always found it to be excellent and reliable , I have the full jacket with heated arms and collar and could not be without it as the years pile on. If it gets really chilly I plug in the heated gloves with elements on the back of the fingers which makes all the difference compared with heated grips which only keep the palms warm . Then for those late night autumn rides where it's cool but not too cold I have the Daytona heated grips with several levels of heat, these are wired straight into the battery because they automatically switch themselves off when the voltage drops so you don't finish up with a flat battery because you forgot to turn them off.
I get as much enjoyment riding in winter as any other time of year it's all about keeping warm so your concentration doesn't drop and of course riding to the conditions. 🛵

Do you find that the battery/alternator can cope ok?

Hi Mak , I am running heated gloves Widder brand (no longer in business) . They are 25W total 12.5 W per glove so about 2A of draw and the Norton 961 has no problem with this load . I have never tested any more than this.

I use a Gerbing jacket and gloves, the jacket is warm even when not switched on.
But when on lovely heat radiates down from the collar, bliss on a cold ride.

Are you running this on the Norton 961 ? If so , then we should post the total watts used for future reference .
From Gerbing website :

Gerbing 12V EX Pro Heated Jacket 77W (max) 12V @ 6.4A

Gerbing 12V G4 Heated Gloves 13W (max) 12V @ 1.1A each ( 26 W 2.2A total )

Hello Mak , The Norton 961 only has a 300W alternator , 8.6 A must be close to the limit ! Are you using a 10A fuse in your pigtail?

I put heated grips on all my bikes- those are my first line of cold defense. This is followed by a heated vest or jacket liner.

On the older bikes there is just enough wattage available to run the grips if one replaces the headlight with an LED unit, or upgrades are made to the alternator or generator, or both.

I like the Symtec heat demon units that mount below your selection of handgrips- these let me run a thinner grip, which I prefer. If using aluminum bars it’s necessary to add an extra insulation layer between the clutch side grip and bar to keep the heat output even, and may require using a throttle side grip. This requires the purchase of two sets of grips…. The leftover pair of clutch side grips work nicely on bicycles.

Hiding the switch to preserve my bikes factory appearance is always a challenge- here’s where the switch ended up on the G15. I later painted the top of the switch black to disguise it further.

Not using all this gear on 961, gloves only.
I use the full set up including pillion on my other bike.
Useful tip, when driving into a town or going slowly turn it all off or it will discharge the battery.
