Just came back from my first ride, 90 miles. First impressions are very good! The gearbox is fabulous, the engine still sounds like a bag of bolts, but at a total of 590 miles I think I'm hearing improvement. The front brake is definitely a one finger pull! It takes a little more turn-in effort than I'm used too, but that's ok. The previous owner must have put near 2/3 quart more engine oil than he should have, the modified airbox drain is working and I've been puking the excess out every time I stop the engine. It's now time for the first oil change and I'm going to be very careful with the amount that I put back in. IMO, that factory dipstick is confusing a lot of people.

Can just keep an eye on oil level after rides till it stops puking then eye ball level in tank and maybe extend dix stick or just touching bottom. The engine should not get softer in sound you just get used to it more and more. I feel like on a steampunk blacksmith powered engine and thank goodness for isolastics. OH yeah play with air pressure front to back differences and may find a sweet ratio of easy steering. I like 2 psi less in front generally. Also Cdo are rather tire sensitive so may not change much till next tire set.

Steve, do you realize you are answering a question in the 961 forum?

I've looked at the pix of the extended dipstick mod and think it might be the way to go. Either that or carry around a common soda straw! :D

Thank God the 961 doesn't have Isolatics.
Still, we'll have to get a 961 into Hobot's hands for evaluation.
