Hello to all,

Looking for opinions and options for a switch to delay (through a relay) the activation of some or most of the circuits on my Commando until it is up and running.
I want only the ignition to have power until the bike is running. The electrics aren't an issue for me thankfully.
What I need to figure out is how best to power a relay when the motor is running.

1) oil pressure.
Is there a fitting with integral switch that I can install that would close at the low pressures seen on a warm running Commando? I think I have seen a fitting that goes in place of the nut at the oil line where you would shim to adjust pressure but can't find it in a search.

2) Vacuum.
As an alternative to oil pressure I have been wondering if I could tap into my Mikuni or it's manifold with a switch operated by vacuum.

3) Exhaust.
Two schools of thought in my distracted mind. Either pressure in, or temperature of, the exhaust. I would think I would need to weld a bung into one of the header pipes to sense that the motor is running by exhaust pressure or gas temp. This method is my least favorite because I am least familiar with the sensors involved.

NO matter what I do I will be controlling a properly sized relay that will close the main feed for the fuse block. A separately fused circuit from the battery will be for the ignition circuit through the key switch. I want max power for the ignition at startup.
If you have a link to a switch you think might work please throw it out there.

Sorry if I am rambling but it is good to get these thoughts out of my head and out in public.
Any constructve opinions appreciated.

Jeff

Duh what I did was wire Trixie so when key on - Only the ignition is hot. To turn on rest of the system, which is just lights/horn i wired so flipping headlight shell switch does it. Horn is indepent as hardly toot it while staring, same with brake lights, so really only got to deal with head and tail lamp draw down to avoid starting. Nortons come with 4 position switch to only turn on ignition, till moved
to pilot parking or main beam position, though can stall out if not fast enough. Oil pressure varies so much might just shut off each time ya slow down to idle nil oil pressure. Vacuum would be better, except might be touchy to adjust so WOT Snaps vacuum drops don't cut out the lights.

A fuel pump relay from an older fuel injected VW will connect to the coil negative and when it sees pulses it will close the relay. Jim
