In am looking for a source for parts to make the linkage from the rearsets to the xmission and the rear brake.

I have found those who have a limited selection of Clevis hardware. But where do I get the connecting rods? And can these rods be threaded with just a die?

I just buy rod and thread them. Got the rod from McMaster, in SS too.

I hate those sloppy Clevis type so I bought nice small hiem joints (rose joints to those in the UK.) and stainless tubing and made my own. Any real industrial hardware store should have this stuff but not the Home Shlepo, Ace Hardware kind. McMaster Carr will.

I used BMW pushrods. Their inner diameter will take a 6mm thread just nicely so you can screw in a rod end bearing.

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. I found everything I need at McMaster-Carr - except the shifter knuckle. The knuckle, as i call it, is the splined piece that slides onto the splined shifter shaft from the xmission and connects to the rear set shifter rod.

The O.D. of the shaft is 13mm with 26 splines.

If need be I will get a shifter and cut/grind/file it to fit.

Any suggestions?

I think you can buy those from Norvil, RGM, unity equip etc. Maddass on the site here makes very nice Dunstall "replicas" I guess you could ask him for one?

Can you reach the gear lever if you mount it going backwards?

Now it's one up. three down.

It is better if you can keep the change one up and the rest down. If you need to ride a bike with a left foot gear change, at least the gears are all in the same direction and all you need do is get your brain to swap sides. If you are also trying to remember the direction of the change, can be a pain in the bum.

The fancy rear sets I've seen have a nice tapered plate with the splines cut out. Might check with Kenny Cummins NYC racer if has just that item available. I snagged a bent one from Baxters Cycles durring one of its rallys so might call list of vendors with piles of useable spares. What ever shift pattern you've reflexly got used to should be retained as that what reacts faster than thought when it matters most passing a semi or slowing on loose steep stuff. As so rare to go fast down shifting leaned but very common to be accelerating leaned so 1up/3dn is only way to shift up if leaned near fouling. Stablized isolastics allow boot toes to get kicked back even on rear sets w/0 feeling that far over so shift to tippy toes till needed next gear. What would be trickest would be shift rod to past under the kick lever and retain 1up/3dn

I bought a nice splined alloy arm from RGM, it was not expensive. It is in the 'Rearsets' section of their online catalogue.

I read somewhere that you can flip the camplate in the gearbox to get the shift pattern back to normal with the gearshift facing backwards, maybe some of the other lads on the forum could confirm this.

Mr. Amals,

NYC Norton can provide the gear shift lever you seek.

Our lever is not the cheapest solution, but each one is fabricated to your specifications and will be the nicest one for sale out there.

You can see it here under the "Rearset Controls" heading: http://nycnorton.com/products/

HTH,

-Kenny Cummings

" the nicest ones for sale out there" Truest words spoken Kenny, I often wished you made a set to work on a standard Norton framed street bike w/kick starter ala Dunstall only with the quality of design & machining your parts exude. I often go to your web site just to drool over the pictures. If I had known of NYC years back when I was in N.Y. the ring I bought for my then girlfriend would have been much less impressive. My bike on the other hand (no pun intended ) would be totally amazing!!!
