The bike, a '72 Norton Roadster, had been starting on first kick and running well. While riding a few weeks ago, it quit while accelerating onto a highway. Almost acted like it was running out of gas, but had plenty of gas in the float bowls. Everything in the timing plate area was okay, advance unit freely moved. Changed plugs. No go. coughs a little when trying to start.
Have checked all the wires, battery was only a week old. Resistance in the coils was 2.0, and 3.0, out of range for one for sure. Checked the voltage at the points with the points open, got 1.2 and 1.5 volts. Is this voltage at the points within range?
I know, Boyer or Rita is the way to go, and it's in the future plans, but just want to get the bike running for the rest of this season. Should I replace the condensers and coils? thanks if anyone can give a little help. :?:
