Norton Rigid 1936 ES2

Like the Norton.

Love the Triumph !
Hi Eddie

Triumph is 1940 Speed Twin - another ex race bike this one looks to have won the 1976 CRMC championship and so far I have managed to resist restoring it just maintenance items and a few minor changes. Going to be interesting to back to back riding experiences.

They don't fight being stabled together do they? That is a pair to make an owner proud..... I can't help myself when I see old iron.

That's just a Norton thing seeing as they're all male.... Just don't let it get the impression you're favoring the Trumpet or the fight is on.

As way of a comparison the magneto on the Triumph was sent off for a rebuild the theory being I wanted something that was better to start than the Norton..... The Triumph mag had a broken winding so had got progressively worse to start which sent me down the rebuild path. Ok so when it was refitted it was like a new bike popped every time and once I hade the technique starts almost every time.
Back to the Norton which had been pushed to the back of the garage as it seemed no matter what I tried it would not kick into life only responding to starter rollers, bearing in mind that I had also had the mag rebuilt as part of the engine rebuild ( not the same guy as the Triumph ).
So out with the Norton mag and following a discussion with the Triumph guy it seemed worth having him have a look, he was all about getting the required spark current at the kicking revs which makes sense - so far its been re-magnetised and is having a rewound armature. I hope to have it back for early January when I can find out if its all been worth it.

While the mag is off being rebuilt I ticked off another job today, the bike came with a commando kickstart leaver which clears the fixed pedal but looks odd and sticks out to far and make the who process of starting seem more difficult my shin is testimony to this... so as a double fix I have bough a replacement straight type leaver but that left the pedal.
Here's my solution
