Hello guys!

I'm going to foolishly attempt to rebuild a Norton Nomad based on having the correct 1960 frame, forks, etc. But I'm missing the major bits (engine, tanks, etc.)

Please unload your wisdom of this rarity upon me because I'm not finding much out there as far as documentation and I'm very green (but determined) to wrenching.

Photos of its state as I purchased it, and the current teardown process:

Well the Nomad 88, 500cc was made only in 1960. You have only the rolling chassis. Nomads don’t command top dollar as far as a desirable Norton model. Sheet metal will be difficult to find. Would be nice to find a ‘60 500cc engine. Looks like an 850 engine in there now which is going to shake you to death in that frame. There are common parts with Norton model 77, but those are scares here in the US. You may want to search in UK and Australia websites.

Ronnie:

Your Nomad frame is actually for a 600 (note the 15 above the frame number). The 500s were all designated with a prefix of 16. The 600 is a rare beast and the 500 is almost non-existent (about 40 500s made). The Nomad used a lot of special pieces, some of which are available and some not! Most Nomad owners end up having to fabricate pieces. Like others, I have fabricated pieces, but have made "extras" to help other Nomad Owners who in turn have helped me. There are several people that are on this forum and the yahoo users group that are an excellent source of Nomad pieces.

BTW, your petrol tank is Nomad. Looks like you are going to need an oil tank and toolbox (in addition to lots of other stuff!

Thanks very much @NOMAD , I've joined the Yahoo Group and the responses have been helpful so far. If there are any other members on here in specific you could refer me too, that'd be greatly appreciated.

Interesting engine you have there
Looks like an atlas bottom end as it has a magneto with an 850 top end
Good luck with your search for nomad parts
