When I bought my 961 it came with the stock mufflers. They were way too tame in my view, and in the opinion of others too! When I took my bike in for the first service, I was chatting with the owner of an SE who was upgrading to the factory free-flow long pipes. I followed his example and ordered a pair for my bike. When installed, with a re-map, the sound and performance was much better . . . .the bike sounded more like a Norton and less like a sewing machine!!!

The next time I was in for an oil change, I was chatting to a chap with a Cafe Racer 961 and he had the Norton shortie pipes. I thought they looker really nice and they sounded "Bad!" I had a pair installed on my bike. The bike did not have to be remapped from the free-flow long pipes.

I can't say enough good about the shorties: they look great, they sound great, and the bike performs really well. The stock mufflers and the free-flow long mufflers are just too big and massive. They take away from the aesthetics of the bike. If they were the shape of the old pea-shooters, that would be perfect, but they are long and fat!!

The shorties are polished stainless steel rather than the gleaming chrome of the long pipes, but the shorties rule in sight and sound!!!!

Those are sweet looking pipes. I need to upgrade to bar end mirrors like yours. Tired of tightening up the stock ones after a 100 mph blast.

They are Rizoma mirrors. I don't recommend them. They are expensive and they don't give a good view of the road behind.

Search for my thread "Installing a Norton Flyscreen" and take a look at the bar-ends GoingCommando has. I am considering these.

I also added the factory short pipes (made by Motad) I agree the sound is wonderful. I have a second SF with South Bay's DT pipes. the shorties are head shoulders above in sound and performance

I bought a classic bar end mirror from Halcyon, very heavy, as it replaces the bar end weight. Needed to file down the insert though, as even the machined down ones are too thick, I like the look. Im quite wide in the shoulders so it actually means I can see behind me for a change. Ive never needed to tighten it and it doesn't buzz.

My pipes are long opens, I like the look and the noise is different to the shorties, more of a Ducati/Guzzi 'drone', than outright decibels....

If people ask me why I changed my mufflers . . . I am going to say because I kept scraping the long pipes on the ground when going around curves.

Nice Bikes ! Looks like the SF carbon fiber chain guard might work better than my Sport chain guard.

Thanks!

The carbon fibre chain guard looks very nice and it is more effective than the steel one because it curves down around the sprocket. I have seen some that hug the rear sprocket even more closely.

Your comments about the SF are interesting. Norton called my bike a Sport but when I went to insure it and gave my insurance company the VIN, they said it was and SF not a Sport. I insisted that it was a Sport and they were adamant that it was an SF!!!

Apparently what has happened is that the Norton Sports exported to Canada have a number of SF features such as inverted forks and radial brakes. I have added the SF graphite trim and flyscreen so the only difference between my bike and an SF is the label on the panels under the seat.

Therefore from now on I shall refer to my Norton as a SFort! :D
