Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum and have a question on how to identify gearbox, year and model. Just a bit of background first. I”’m clearing my 90 year old fathers garage as the house has been sold. He is in a Care home now.
I have found a variety of complete gear box’s, they are not the AMC / Comando shaped gear box,s
Can anyone suggest how I can search the origin of model and year from the gearbox number. I do have some photos if that would help. I do need to sell them all so just looking for a fair price. Any clues appreciated.
Many years ago my dad competed in Sidecar grass track events, so where they came from I don’t know, but I guess that’s why he has this collection of box’s. 6 in total, one is obviously very old from the linkages attached.

Was your father into AKS / Matchless motorcycles or hi-Bread Norton's such as N-15/ G-15's? They have a different casting for the shell even though the shafts and gears are the same as Norton's. Pictures please.

You have pre AMC gearboxes so they may be pre 56 "norton" dollshead, laydown or upright gearboxes.......NAIL has parts/pix posted here. Select to view each type
