Hi Charles,
First of all you are correct but...
I think there is a bit more to a motorcycle than sound/smell. In my very limited experience (which is good enough to satisfy me) if the wheels/relative weight placement/frame/fork geometry/shocks etc are the same than the bike will feel a bit more like a Norton around turns than say a Ducati or a triumph would even though they're petrol and this one isn't. If I put full fairings on the bike I doubt anyone will even realise it's a EV on first glance. So I got the looks and the feel somewhat covered. Sound wise most bikes bother me so I'm happy that it's silent and if I'm smelling gasoline it better be because I'm eating durans. I think all of what I'm doing would be enough to call it a NorBolt at least.. I think it's as "Norton" as any other special out there... HOWEVER I do also agree with you that I'm not going to get a Norton by taking a Norton frame and slapping a EV motor into it which is why I've gone out and bought a Mercury/Commando and possibly depending on how negotiations go a Manx which will end up getting a road bike treatment (and in that case all the other petrol bikes go because my wife is only so understanding)
But right now the EV is on hold while I sort the petrol bikes.

Sensitivity to overcharging leads to explosions... Ok sorry I'm paranoid now that I'm talking on all the EV build forums. You know how many people have had straight up explosions??! A lot, too many. I mean I've already had two lithium batteries explode on me. One was under control though large, one just exploded in the middle of the night and I noticed the next day but luckily it was isolated and very small (drone battery). One was my fault sort of, one was not.
Anyway with that said I'm cool to get an AGM battery, shoot me a local recommendation I shouldn't need anything large switching to full M-unit w/tri-spark and Steves mosfet reg/rec. I need to check my Mercury batt, it might be AGM.
EVERYTHING petrol should be here by the end of the month. So I'll at least have the MercRacer built by mid June (excited)... Half tempted to get the frame painted and the engine chromed
but I don't want to take the engine apart, I just don't want the headache of bodging it up (I know I will).- Joined

Well if you're using a featherbed frame, then you can, in my opinion, promote it as, at least partially Norton! I'm lovin this build thread (sad that it has stalled.... But thrilled it on here). One of my co-workers was PCS'ing and offered up his son's old razor electric mini bike. I had been promising our youngest son, that I'd get him one but we moved down south back to the city, so I'd put it off. Anyway we got this thing charged up for the first time in a long time and it worked, but the batteries crapped out quickly. We took it apart and ordered some Yusa sealed lead acid equivalents and he's loving it (unfortunately his available riding areas are extremely limited.

It’ll be back on track soon. I just hope what I’m doing works out. I could have built it but I have a vanity idea and a Chinese manufacturer who says they can help me so just waiting to see how this pans out. Worst case I’ll grab the motor zero uses and wedge the biggest safest battery I can into the frame.
Going with lifepo4 for safety but my range will be severely limited due to the fact that they’re big and lack energy density compared to some riskier batteries. But I don’t need to go far, I’m also living in the city so coffee on the beach and bread from my local bakery is all I need this bike to do.
But good that you changed out the batteries, better to be safe than have your garage catch fire.

I think it might be wise NOT to turn up at the platers with a complete, dirty, dripping, old engine and ask them to chrome plate it for you…Sensitivity to overcharging leads to explosions... Actually on that topic my range has more than halved bc safety. Was going to be 96v 60a and I can only fit 72v 20ah if I go with the lifepo4.
I'd totally chrome the engine head/case and do a blacked chrome barrel
