Norton Dominator fuel / petrol tank rear rubber mountings. How should they be held in place?

Hi:

Question regarding Norton Dominator fuel / petrol tank rear rubber mountings, (NM16237).

It appears that two are required and are mounted on top of either side of the frame rails, underneath the rear of the petrol tank. The rear of the petrol tank is held down / in place by a rubber "O" ring, (NM22764).

How are the two tank rubbers held in place? Is it just the pressure from the "O" ring? Or are they supposed to be adhered to the frame in some fashion? I tried to affix mine using contact adhesive. However, engine vibration causes them to roll and fall off! They are very smooth, maybe I need to rough them up a bit or add a second "O" ring?

Electrician's tape. If you're picky the nice silicone stuff.
 
I bonded mine on with an adhesive, probably 3M weatherstrip but I do not remember for sure. Since the tank applies pressure, there is no reason why they should come loose.

O.K. Thank you both for your help.

Time to roll out the big guns, JB weld and electrical tape!

I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to be a fly on the wall at Bracebridge Street, or indeed Plumstead. Probably equal parts wonderment and horror. That said I suppose it is unfair to judge what was O.K. then with 21st century eyes.

I wouldn't use JB Weld on rubber. Don't think it's really meant for it. Also this is not really a stressed application. As Slick says the pressure/weight of the tank pretty much holds it in place. You just want to locate the rubber so it doesn't creep. (Yes, on second thought that does sound weird.)
 
Don't remember what was used on my first Dommie back in -66. But when I repainted it in -67 from blue frame to black, I used plastic electrical tape to keep the foam rubbers in place. Nowadays I use tyraps on the RGM type rubbers..

I have used Kawasaki z1-900 tank rubbers with great success for the last 30 years. Put a cable tie around them, job done forever.
