Richard, I Spoke with your Father today at length. I really appreciate your extending help in that. You are right, He is quite a character and I really enjoyed our discussion and hope we remain in contact. He sounds very knowledgeable and I got a big kick out of it. I really liked his characterization of the bike "Its a bit of a Mad dog". Also remind him that I am willing to share my resources and tech materials with him and any other 961 owner.
Happy motoring. thanks again, that was awesome.

Thats really cool for them to recognize him for that,. Even cooler he pulled it off. I would have been pleased to offer him a similar award here in Oregon at the recent Norton rally. I would have paid for it out of my own pocket.

Hell, after i heard the comments of the Bike show organizer,, I would have paid much of his gas money to attend. I was really hoping some of the New 961 Nortons would have attended the rally. I heard there was a possibility of 2 showing up. I had the prototypes and the New 961 motors there as a display but i was the only one.

When I asked about the bike show categories i was told by the guy running the bike show they didnt have a category for modern Nortons because there isnt any here in the US. Perhaps i heard him wrong but i believe he also said New Nortons dont exist at all. He did suggest that they COULD be entered into the show as "REBUILT Nortons" The more i argued with him he kept saying he was confused. Never would concede that new Nortons exist. I gave up and walked away. He didnt even seem willing to walk 100 feet to my booth to look at one.

So YES,, I would have loved to seen your dad at the rally here in Oregon. Regardless of my whinging, I hope he might consider a trip out here. I would be happy to host, Perhaps consider attending the upcoming "All British Field meet" here in Portland Oregon at the end of August and early Sept for the US Labor day weekend? Its a Huge event with British cars and a british bikes along with classic car racing, Banquets, Noggins & Natter (Drink and discussion) swap meet, road rallies and an offroad challenge for the Land Rovers and odd MG and Herald. Unlike other events of late, its VERY well organized and a lot of fun.
While here he could visit our many local museums such as the Vintage car and Motorcycle museum and Antique Powerland as well as the Air & Space museum down in McMinnville (Spruce goose, SR71, NASA rockets, and a 3 story water slide out of a 747 down thru tubes into a swimming pool below).

Any rate, great job! congratulations. And thanks for living the dream. (They DO exist Virginia!, they DO!)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, your dad is my new hero. Congratulations on the award. That's quite a feat.

I'm wondering if the geezer bars will fit my Café Racer? The factory clip-on's are a little too aggressive for me.

My dad is 63 and told me it takes a minute to get used to. In the one pic you'll notice he leans his forearm on the tank to lessen the stress while cruising.

AND -- Yes the GEEZER bars will work on your bike. Just like the Cafe bars (clip-ons) went onto my dads SE. All bars fit all 961 bikes. You will need longer hoses, top tree and bars. I'm sure the Dealer has them. Or you could find someone to trade you. Clip-ons are an upgrade.

Thanks! I've only got a 1000 miles on my bike so far. It's great to see someone ride the Norton 961 across the country. If you ever in El Paso, Texas feel free to stop by!

Just an update::

My dad, as of yesterday, has done 7,000 trouble free miles in 8 months. My dad is semi-retired and drives that bike rain or shine. Such a fantastic machine. In fact he has taken insurance off his other bikes as he loves riding the Norton 961 so much the others just sit there.

He only ever noticed problems with it running poorly when he used gas with ethanol like PETRO 94. So now only goes to SHELL V-POWER 91 or ESSO 91 both those here in Ontario are ETHANOL FREE, plus you get air miles.

Respect....

Does the number on your fuel equate to its octane rating like ours does? 95 and 98?

Yes it does. Although I've heard that the math equation is different to ours and our 91 is like your 95. But i'm not 100% sure if that is the case. Any rate, yes, Petro 94 is 94 octane but contains 10% ethanol. And I've also heard that PETRO 94 is just PETRO 91 with octane booster. Again, true?? not sure, but in my Suzuki 2-stroke cafe, PETRO 94 is noticeably different than 91 but learning off my dad I'm not going to put ethanol in my Norton.
