Top FAQs from U.S. riders - update

Where is my local dealer?

We continue the process of meeting and interviewing new dealers nationwide. We are being very careful, and proceeding conservatively to ensure that we partner with only the very best dealers who understand the high level of service that we and Norton owners expect and deserve. Here is our current list of dealers, and look for four new locations, on the west coast and mid-west being added to the Norton family this coming month.

When can I get a bike? When the U.S. approval process is completed, we will begin production and shipping your motorcycles, with the first approvals coming for 49 state bikes, then California models thereafter by about 60 days. Our forecast for Commando 961 models to start arriving early fall, was a bit too optimistic, we are now forecasting models to begin arriving by year end, when the first bikes will be delivered to clients who have a deposit with their dealer.

How much do they cost?

Suggested introductory retail price for new Norton Commando 961 models:

Sport - solo seat $16,995

Sport - dual seat $17,995

Cafe Racer - solo seat $17,995

Cafe Racer - dual seat $18,995

Can I order a 961SE? The 961SE for the USA, which was limited to 50 examples is sold out. Currently the 961 Sport and 961 Cafe Racer are available. The most sought after feature of the SE, the carbon fiber wheels, will however be available as a Norton Accessory.

How amazing that we Brits can make and ship our bikes to the USA for less than they are selling them to us....

I expect we have to pay more tax.

Duh dude, they don't call UK persons 'subjects' just for fun...
Written by George after he realized he'd been catapulted into Britain's notorious highest tax bracket -- one in which he was expected to give back 95 percent of his earnings -- "Taxman" was the Beatles' strongest rocker to date, and also their first overt political statement. Indeed, Harold Wilson, then Prime Minister of Britain, and conservative opposition leader Edward Heath are mentioned by name, albeit in the background

Thanks L.A.B & Hobot. I almost forgot that we are here to pay for people not to work and have the same standard of living as those that do. Silly me..

They haven't shipped any yet!

Could be like the old joke.

Guy goes into a shop to buy a certain TV & is told they are £300.
Guy- "They are only £250 at the shop down the street."
Shopkeeper- "So why didn't you buy one there?"
Guy- "They don't have any."
Shopkeeper- "Well ours are £250 when we don't have any!"

Am also intrigued that they list a dual seat version. Nobody has seen such a thing yet.

They were talking of that dualseat over a year ago. I was thinking of buying one and they said they would contact me...I do hope they survive and get their act together. Customer service isn't difficult but needs managing.

They have learned NOTHING about misleading delivery dates.

They would be FAR BETTER OFF NOT ANNOUNCING "delivery" dates. Just build the bikes, deliver them, and annouce that they are DELIVERED.

If there weren't gullible people out there, prepared to put down deposits and pay IN FULL without even seeing their bike completed, then merchants like this wouldn't prosper. Given the amount of adverse comment over the last few months, anyone giving them cash without , for example, an escrow arrangement would seem to be in need of serious pyschiatric counselling, in my opinion.

That dual seat must be covered in white rhino hide or maybe mink, I wonder how much for just a regular one???

Hi Gang .

I can understand the reluctance to buy something "sight-unseen" and have, in fact, done so at the first go-'round of the 961 when it was being developed by a group in Oregon, US. Sent 'em my 500 Bux on 12-30-05 on the promise that I would be kept informed on the progress of finalization of design and eventual production. They did issue me a receipt, and true to their word, keep me informed through periodic emails and bulletins. Seems that the mechanical end was proceeding rapidly and successfully, but the financial details were lagging behinder and behinder yet. After more than a few months of tantalizing dreams and unbridled anticipation, I received an envelope containing a letter thanking me for my support AND a check for my $500. I wasn't fit to live with for several hours.

I don't believe that I'm in need of ". . . serious psychiatric counseling" nor do I hold any ill-will for anyone who might think that such a course might be warranted. I tend to take folks at their word and am usually not disappointed by agreements sealed by no more than a hand-shake. I DO-NOT, however, answer emails from Nigeria.

I'm looking forward to acquiring a 961 Sport (silver) and am prepared to wait as long as it takes. When a dealer is established in my area they will get my deposit and another round of tantalizing dreams and unbridled anticipation will begin again.

Best, Steve

I dont think the price difference is for the seat only.Theres probably a different subframe and suspension setup.
