New (to me) Dominator

My dominator hub gap.
New (to me) Dominator

Here is mine. Most of mine were screwed and you could see no external sign, BUT you can just see a whisp of rubber here, so that's a good indication.....but just because you can't see this, doesn't mean there aren't issues. All 5 of my rubbers were pretty screwed with little external evidence. Once I saw Rens at 2.5 k, that was it in my mind. His shredded remains motivated me for sure!

I’m a car mechanic not a bike mechanic. What is the point of the rubber crush drives? To help take up drivetrain shock?
Yes , Drivetrain shock especially the clutch and transmission gears . And if you drive with gusto , better check more often. Until we compile a service history of the TCDR-1 cush rubbers we won't know how long they last . The first iteration of cush rubbers from Norton were not too good . 1000 miles of spirited riding and they were shot . The next iteration of cush rubbers last maybe 2500 miles ( they way I ride ) . Some riders do better , some worse . Those right-handed Wrist Jockey's know who they are ! So these TCDR-1 are the last iteration I have seen . And yes I agree that this TALON hub was designed for a light Super Motard type bike , not a heavy twin with this much torque .

Not sure about the ‘drive with gusto’ part Tony.

If you ride briskly, keeping the motor spinning, the drive train gets an easy life.

The stresses come if you labour the engine, chugging along in a too high gear. That’s what kills the drive train, especially on big lumpy twins.

OK , no argument from me . Then when I am hooking the gears at full chat , no worries . :)

Hello Cliffa , If it were me I would work on obtaining suitable cush rubbers first . Once I had a source , whether self manufactured or purchased then I would ponder some mods. I believe LCRKEN has already been able to use the BST carbon wheel cush drive rubbers with a mod to the cush rubber. I think he pressed out the metal inner sleeve to make it work in the spoked TALON Hub.

Hi Scott , No I haven't . It would be great to establish a part number for a sprocket that fits the Norton 961 . This for when TALON decide to stop making our sprockets ?
I called Super Sprox. I was on hold and left a message. We’ll see.

Well, tinkering and assessment continues. I'm now looking at my sprocket. I'm quite new to motorcycling really (been riding for 5 years now!) but not new to mechanical stuff, so quite enjoying looking at my Norton!

So, my rear sprocket. On one side, the wear looks reasonable, given it's alloy, but the other I'm thinking 'oh, that looks done'. Could those of you wiser than me pass comment?

One side...teeth definitely looked worn:

I'm thinking poorly aligned chain.

Looking at the battery/coil bracket, I think I see some stress fractures developing...

so I think some bracing is needed...dust off the welder I think!

Yes replaced rear sprocket b4 this happens, battery box/tank support needs a bit of help to , I’ve had mine rewelded to , the tank goes lob sided

My bike had a similar sprocket when i bought it, it makes me wonder whether they came from the factory with the chain too tight? In my case there was also a broken link on the chain!!!
Battery box strengthening, welded up the cracks then strengthened, with cut outs for the battery strap and coil electrical connector.

Few more of mine , under the tank is where u blank of the 02 lamda sensors , u can see the resistors with black cover caps on , battery box broke on the tank support section , & then of course the decat pipe , btw linking out the lamda sensors was the best thing I’ve done on bike , no stalling/hunting/over revving /splutter , just runs great

I’d check your rear axle alignment. Measure center of the axle to the center of the swing arm pivot. My commando is spot on. My dominator was 1/8” off.

Thanks. I think a new sprocket and set alignment properly. The bike has relatively new tyres, so may easily have been adjusted incorrectly.

If imitation is the greatest form of flattery .....prepared to be flattered!

Blimey, you’ve been through the mill! Ok, sounds like lambda Sensor resistor plugs needed then! I’ll add it to the growing list of bits and bobs needed!
