So, while I'm waiting on the DVD, shop and parts book for the 56 Domi to arrive I did some reading. First was the original repair manual that covers 58 and later, then the Haynes manual that covers 58 on Dominators, then I looked at my Haynes manual for Commandos. The first two made no mention about the shim, the Commando one did. But as I remember the spacer on the Commandos was for the tach drive to keep the cam centered and was considerably thicker than 1/32".I think I will remove the timing gears and then just reassemble the gear spring and shim on the cam shaft. If that binds up I will remove the shim and see if that helps. I'm in no big rush and I want to make sure this is done correctly.
