Any info on this one? I want a roadster if Ivan find the right one

Not at the buy it now price. I see odds and ends here (probably get blasted for that but.....) I'd look again at that Interstate.

I tried for the interstate but didn't win it at 8300.00. I am bummed but not giving up. Mind telling what things look wrong on the bike with the 7k buy it now price? I don't want to pay 7 for it but a good deal at 6k. Thanks again guys. I working hard trying to find my dream bike

Well the bitsa went for 7100.00. Little to high for what it was. I won't mind paying top dollar for a good bike. Just got to find it. There a nice looking 850 on eBay in Michigan, everyone here has good eyes for these bikes. If you don't mind taking a look at it and letting me know if there are any concerns? Thanks guys

You may want to stay off of E-bay and looking around at that is available from other Norton enthusiasts. I found this listing on the INOA web site. He is asking less for this bike than what the Bitsa sold for.

There are a number of chapters around the country that you could contact and see what is available in their area.
Atlanta is a big town. There must be a bike shop that specializes in Britt bikes that may have a line on what you are looking for.
Keep us posted on your search.

Thanks boz. I contacted the seller and left a message. I hope he still has the bike. There 2 good British bike shops here on Atlanta, they have no Nortons right now but are looking. I will keep pounding the pavement and see if I can find the right bike.
Thanks again, I hope your lead works out

Local clubs or chapters of the INOA are groups you should get in contact with sooner or later anyway, doing it while you're still searching for a bike could make getting the bike easier and more enjoyable than going it on your own and dealing with strangers.

Getting a 'spec bike' built by a professional has pluses and minuses. You can assume a certain amount of competency, but there might not be the kind of doting care and financial indulgences owners like us tend to get into.

The tank on that Interstate looks like it was the lower capacity of the the range they seem to have been made them in over the years. I lent out my Bacon Bible so I'm not sure of the size, but that is maybe the most beautiful Norton gas tank ever.

G'day Jeff,
Not sure if your Ebayer knows what he is talking about or if you are not understanding what he is saying,
and not explaining it well.
Yes Commando engines do "WET SUMP", that is, the oil drains back past the oil pump to the crank cases.
It's not a real big deal, many have rebuilt there pumps only to find them leak again in the not too far distant future.
I think that he is trying to tell you that it is possible to think that there is no oil in the bike because it will show
nothing on the dip stick, and perhaps a new owner may add oil.
If there was oil in the tank when you parked her up, then theoretically (if it's not all over the floor),
it should still be in the engine, so...
Take the seat off, take the oil cap off, and kick her over a couple of times, you should see the oil returning to the tank.
Start her, or him, and let the pump do its thing, oil should be returning to the tank, with a steady flow, although sometimes
with a squirt and a splatter. Don't rev too much, and by the time it has warmed up a bit, the job should be done.
The "fix" that the seller is refereing too is quite possibly the installation of a 'one way valve" or a manually operated valve (tap)
into the oil lines. Not many here subscribe to either, can be catastrophic.
Once you get used to the wet sump thing, then you won't even think about it, it does no harm.
Just don't over fill the tank, as it will just push it out the overflow / breather. Usually half way between the high low marks is acceptable.
AC.

When i got my first Combat it was stored for winter so owner who worked a small engine shop looked in tank then added 2 quarts before staring it then stood there beaming about 30 sec till we saw about a quart end up on floor, so he said hehe guess I got a free oil change to boot. Just needs enough oil in tank, an inch or so to supply oil till the double flow sump side of pump returns oil to tank. 750 dip sticks are too short to go by, I find natural level is just wetting the end. hobot

Good deal guys. I will look into those chapters ASAP. The link BOZ sent me is still a live one. He is still trying to sell but he is out of town til jan 4 th and will send me pics then.

Found another on there too, it's a 750 but seems to have many things addressed.
I would like to find one I can restore and not completed, but this sure is a stunning bike.

At $7500 that bike is about half of what it will cost you to restore one to a like condition. Although, Combats had a disc front brake. Not that the drum front is a big deal. The stock Combat disc is a poor excuse for a brake.

Except you can make the stock disk work extremely well with a little work, the drum will always be a drum.

Hey guys, What's a good price to pay on a 74 850 roadster. All original except for paint tank and cover to black and gold. Original carb, points, exhaust, wheels. Etc. hass 12k miles States chrome is in good shape wheels are good but not showroom. Which is fine with me. 6k?????

That's within the range I found when looking for my current bike last March.
I saw bikes on the "low" end of decent, meaning needing some new parts, with lower original miles from $2.5 K rough $3.5K less rough, up to around $7K / $8K for bikes that, while weren't absolutely pristene, were fine ridable presentable low milage examples that needed only minor cosmetics.
I eneded up finding a 7K mile MK2 850 for $3K plus transport costs that really only needed paint, and a few other cosmetic bits . I've got about $3.5K into it above the original price and it looks like a new bike and has all the latest "improved" parts.... electronic ignition, belt drive, head steady , new isolastics, alloy wheels, new rubber, new seat cover, new carbs. If it went up an eBay, I could probaly get $8.5 to $10K for it. But this is a keeper.
If your's will be a keeper, then it probably is OK to be "upside down" on it, that is, more on improvements than the bike is worth if resold.
Since I like to turn my own wrenches, I preferred to "buy low" . And even with all of the aftermarket/ new parts, the bikes value is still there.
The bike is easy to work on and really doen't take much time, unless you're doing a full restoration and painting/powdercoating everything in sight. Luckily I only needed to replace the fenders, headlampshell, seatcover and new paint to be a good runner / driver. The extra goodies weren't really required.
Best advice is to take your time and just don't buy the first thing that jumps out at you. Most if not all the ones you find will probably need a little TLC , unless you're willing to pay alot more for it to have already been done. Don't forget that there are ALOT of D.P.O's out there who's bikes may "look" good and are asking a high price, may be a bit hacked when you start digging deeper after you get it in your garage, and end up costing a helluva a lot more than you thought you'd be into it.

Right on and thanks. The bike I'm looking at is a runner but all original, which is good, but I also know I will want upgrade many things like most of you guys have. Just don't want to pay too much knowing I will put a lot of TLC and cash upgrading the all stock parts. Good news is this gentleman has owned it 79' and hasn't done a thing to it other than keeping ur running and painting the tank side panels. Ill see if I can get it for under 6. We will see. Thanks again for all the great advice guys.
