Like the Enfield 650, I'd love to see another retro. Maybe a standard Roadster, nice two up seat, adequate HP.
Nothing wrong with moving ahead, but its the retro that got us old dudes with money all excited in the first place.

Hey, who you callin‘ an ‘old dude’!? Oh, right, fair point, mumble....mumble.......harrumph! Think we’ve discussed the ‘will they won’t they’ fix up 961 known faults for the final forty run. Really hope so for Michaels enjoyment.

I too fell in love with the 961 at first sight. No test ride. Cursory call to the wife in her open office environment ( so she could’nt shout) to test the water. She didn’t say no immediately, so I took that as a pretty firm yes and bought it on the spot!! It was’nt pretty when I got home later - ‘picture no sound‘ for a few days:oops:!

No sound for a few days sounds like a bonus IMHO!

As they say; It is sometimes better to seek forgiveness than permission....

My ole la....um....Me missus said to go buy it. Then I bought a second T140....so now she's grumbling a bit because the garage is getting a bit crowded.

I got an invite to the launch of the 50th Anniversary models at Donington. I asked the wife if we could go along "just to look" and she said ok BUT sternly added "you aren't buying one!".... the rest is history :)

Funny innit...

I tend to go to the NEC show every year. I‘m not usually there very long and almost always come away thinking it was a bit of a damp squib and I’ll not bother next year.

But I still go back every year.

Having missed last year, this seems SUCH a long way off !

Well at least it gets us old folk out of the house... I wonder whether there might be a 'Live' event at the National Motorcycle Museum with Norton's patronage especially now they are neighbours? It was quite a nice little event. My hearing has almost returned from Mr Millyard's engine runs......

Ok guys, progress.

The good news is that I received my 961 'Key Ring' this morning

Norton - Leather Key Ring

Not from Norton Motorcycles but from a Leakeast Ltd, Prestwold, LE12 5SH

It's a lovely bit of leather work from hmg-design on eBay.

Looks like they are Norton fans, so likely on this forum. If so thank you.

If anyone else want's a Norton keyring here's the link to the collection.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/hmgkeyrings

... the sad news is, I have to wait until after Monday (when UK number plates change their year digits to '21') ... before my 961 will get registered .... and, a while more before it gets delivered.

Maybe new Norton's will come with a key ring and a new font ...

... however I understand from Norton that these last Commando's are all hand made, so very happy having a hand crafted key ring made by a Norton fan to go with it.

Hi,
great to have you joining our illustrious little band - your story sounds a bit like like mine - a bit of an adrenaline junkie perhaps? After a few cycling accidents I decided to buy a little electric to scooter to get to work cheaply and more safely. Then I saw a picture of the Norton 961CR. Best thing I did in years and have got huge amounts of enjoyment from ownership. Wonder what your recent biking history is? I bought the Norton after around 9 years lost in the 4wheel wilderness. Hopefully we can all start having a few rideouts and meets this year.

You're certainly in the right place for support and advice in this forum - keep us posted on progress. I asked for pictures during the build which they were happy to send through to keep the excitement going....

Regards Clive

42 years list in the four wheel world in my case Clive !!!
... but yes, I'm a bit of an adrenalin junkie. Studied aeronautical engineering ... but only like flying when there's no engine involved.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, my first dream of owning a bike was when I saw a new NORTON CONMMANDO 750 in a dealers window in Oxford. That would be in June or July 1969, just before Apollo 11 landed on the moon. I said to myself ... "one day I'll have one of those" that was just shy of 52 years ago.

However, coming back down to earth, my first bike didn't materialise for another 5 years. It was a BSA that I rescued from a mate's near collapsed wooden garage in Dewsbury. Next I trundled it down to Loughborough University in the back of a Triumph Herald as bits. As fortune would have it, I was doing an Industrial Studies course there, with access to a machine shop. So by the time I left, I had a completely rebuilt, immaculate C15, and the university has several wall spattered with spray where I'd covertly finished off my paintwork.

Honda 250 next, but that didn't last long. Next I took a shine to Bonnevilles. Went though several T120's (they kept getting nicked when I went into London, their steering locks were rubbish!) After that went to work in Zambia where I had rebuilt a Yamaha 350TZ which I used for racing, put a Wankel R2 rotary into a Triumph Spitfire for the same purpose ... them got married to the girl that had enjoyed all the skydiving and racing event ... and we started having kids ...

.... pause, please do not adjust your set... ;-)
