NEW NORTON ATLAS MOTORCYCLE

Looks nice, but one big mistake which proves they have not put many miles on one, unless it was dry miles only!

Surely someone can see, or should that be not see in this case, what I can see.

The pics are on the website.

Think you are referring to the front mudguard being too high and too short and the inconvenient gap between the top of the belly pan and the bottom of the radiator for all the road dirt and water to enter. Hope the belly pan has a drain hole.

Comes in grey or titanium (Grey). Da or nyet? And do I smell my wifes foot roasting? Bolt on foot rest could have been lowered a bit. Other than that....its very nice.

So, did none of our gang attend the launch? Just wonderin’ as some feedback re what it looks and feels like in the flesh would be good.

Not sure what I was expecting (I guess being a cynical old bastard may have skewed my thoughts) but this bike is far better looking than I expected.

Remember, at last years NEC show they were still canvassing public opinion and had NUTHIN’ to show... one year later they have this. On sale!

That’s an impressive years work boys.

Hope it sells like hot cakes !

And if the 84bhp and 178kg is true... us 961 owners, not to mention classic Commando owners, had better watch out...!

Wodgedodge & I attended plus plenty of other Norton Owners Club members - the Nomad is road going version at £10k, the Ranger is more offroad with different forks & rear shock, knobbly tyres etc at £12k - there are to firstly make 100 specials called the SS at £16k which is deliverable next May onwards (all attendees have an application form for this bike) - the 2 bikes on show (SS plus Nomad) were not fired up - they are also to race this engine in the TT with a race framed Superlight bike - not sure if that will be the basis of a road bike - this bike was not ready to show last night but should be on show at the bike show this coming week at the NEC - the first V4 SS number 1 of 200 was on show & started up - guess Stuart will keep this - John McGuiness blasted this bike round Cadwell Park 2 weeks ago at a general bile track day - as far as I can tell, the first 3 customer V4 SS bikes will be delivered next week followed by 5 the week after - a new 12,000 sq ft bike assembly building will be started soon so that the current assembly area can be converted into a 'customer experience' facility - Euro 5 regs are due in on Jan 1st 2020 but apparently the powers that be have not decided what goes into that spec - thus the factory can't assess the 961 suitability as to whether it will pass, we shall have to wait

Great feedback, thanks.
I really like the 1200RR but I just know I’d be a bloody liability with 200bhp+!
The earlier talk of a super lightweight supercharged 650 sports bike is very appealing undeed. It would be a super fun track toy!
If the Scrambler has set the standard for what’s to come, I shall be watching with a very keen interest.

From an instagram account that i'm following.... look to be two models...

Diamond White!?!

Don’t tell MX, he’ll have his cheque book out faster than you can say “anyone wanna buy a Harley project?”....

Overall i like it but, call me old fashioned, having USD forks on an off road styled bike is a nonsense. What the "market" wants though i suppose.

As Regental mentioned, I was there for the launch and lunch (late)...Mrs Wodgedodge was away on a course!

It was an enjoyable evening and great to mix and chat with fellow enthusiasts and the lead up to the big reveal was well done with SG arriving on the V4!

As for the new Atlas, its an interesting mix of old and new. The chassis and bodywork are fairly retro and to my eye is a bit reminiscent of some of the CCM's. The engine however is very modern looking, with a high clutch housing and a fair amount of plumbing!

Both bikes were displayed on plinths so it was a bit difficult to assess the height of the bike, and I'd like to have had a sit on one to assess the ergonomics.

Having now taken delivery of my upgraded Commando (newer and with a dual seat) I don't think I'll be in the market for one just yet!

I'll check them out on Saturday at the NEC, erring toward the Ranger over the Nomad at present.

Think you are referring to the front mudguard being too high and too short and the inconvenient gap between the top of the belly pan and the bottom of the radiator for all the road dirt and water to enter. Hope the belly pan has a drain hole.

Tis the tother end - I would be hacked off cleaning that rear shock that is very exposed to crap coming off the rear tyre, and the lower ridge on the knee recesses on the tank may prove uncomfortable. Simple tweaks to an already crisp looking bike. Not sure where the power sits elsewhere in the rev range, but for even mild green lane use some torque down low would be great.

The pics above suggest the bike is riding high on the current suspension setup, this suggests that there could be some very nice road biased bikes in the pipeline using the same powerplant and frame.

Is it just me or do the pics above just make the 961 look dated, sorry Nige.

Both bikes in M C N today will be at the N E C this week Nomad £9995 and Ranger £11995 both twins.Been told very good prices don't much about off roaders but been told these seem good.

961 has the right 'retro' look, Atlas is a bit too modern but then again it has to be.

My cheque book is tied up in keeping my Harley project on the rails so I shan't be rushing out to get the Atlas, but I wish the company every success in the new venture.
