Last month I purchased a 1974 Commando from a member in the Michigan Norton Owners Club. It has been kept in good repair. The only thing I really need to do is replace the seat for aesthetic reasons. I may do a little more tweaking but for the most part it is all there and everything works. Mileage is 21,000 miles.

This me a million years ago with my first Norton in 1974. Heck, it was my first motorcycle. I was a complete novice, totally clueless. But I had fallen head over heels in love with the object of my affection. Unfortunately I had to sell it shortly thereafter.

After the blue Commando I had a long motorcycle hiatus. Until 1996 when I spotted a 1973 Triumph Bonneville parked in a driveway with a for sale sign. A few years later I added a modern Triumph, and a few years later a modern BMW.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot from your wisdom and experience as I embark on my second round of Norton ownership.

Howdy, and welcome.

I think I still have one of those dual saddles...

Welcome back. Consider reupholstering that seat, as a lot of the aftermarket ones are junk.

Welcome back to Nortons. I, as well as others, I'm sure have similar pictures of ourselves "back in the day", geeze were we cool or what? And the good part about riding your "new " Norton is you'll feel the same too. It's like a time machine!

Cool picture. I have always liked that colour of blue. Welcome!

Cheers,

Oh, no, another freak! Where's my bong?

The wisdom will be all yours when you start in with it.

Welcome.

Hi Pete

I think you will find Norton ownership different and maybe even better than before, I know I do.
It is a weird sensation to both own the bike and have some money for parts. Adulthood does have some advantages! :D

Hi Pete, heres a funny story,my buddy and I looked at that bike,it shure sounds sweet and looks great. The interesting part is I bought the red 74 in hale mi. that you passed on.That bike NEEDS a LOT of attenion and I think I over paid! All for the love of Norton.I have a similar pic of my self in `77 on my 73 750 W/2 into 1 into 2 dunstall exaust & 32mm Amals.Soon I will try to post pic`s.Hope to have mine on the road buy summer. Our mutual frend Dan is rebuilding the engine & trans on a 72 750 I found in Alpena, last plated 1982! and not lovingly stored.Hope to see you on the road!Pete

I can relate to that. I never spent money I didn't have on my Norton when I rode it as a youngster, except for oil.

Spent about $8K on it from 05-10. About 10 times what I paid for it in 72.
