Has anybody else noticed the frame protector on the new Norton 961's ? Have a look on the Norton Motorcycles UK website at the Dominator model. This image shows it the best , and look at the area just below the lower rung of the drive chain. You will see a rubber/plastic buffer frame chain protector. I think that's what it is and it looks like it slips on that part of the frame after you remove the R/H muffler mounting bracket. You will miss it if you don't look carefully. So have a look and let me know what you think . Thanks Tony

Look closely you will see it.

The second picture which shows a rubber bung behind the exhaust mount is the rubber mount for the muffler pipe, same setup as the 961?

Hello BPHorseguy , No , I don't think your seeing it. All new models have this now I think including Commando. We can upgrade our bike as well I hope. In the picture above , imagine removing the R/H muffler , then remove the black triangle shaped muffler/rear foot peg support . Now that rubber/plastic tubular shaped frame protector will slide off for replacement etc.. this is not the rubber mounting for the mufflers.. I should have used a red arrow like iwilson did on his images. Just follow the lower run of the drive chain and you will see it. Look below the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder and swing arm pivot area where the frame stubs out to attach to the triangle support... Tony

Ok, Now I see it! My apologies Tony. I was looking for a frame protector like a crotch rocket has for crash damage. I had to read your post 3 times before the word CHAIN sunk in. There is a rubber donut where the chain passes over the front lower triangle mount that is not on my 961. So you are saying that this is on the 961 MK 2's also ?

Yes, and fits on earlier Commandos. I picked one up at the factory recently. Looks like it helps provide more chain clearance too, but haven't installed it yet.

Hello Dbono , You have been to the factory and I would also love to go. Let us know how the frame protector /chain guide works out. I would like to order one or two of them as well. I see your point about the clearance between chain and muffler I assume ? Please keep the information coming. thanks, Tony

Hi Tony,

Yes you're correct we have on the Commandos and Dominators a chain rubbing strip on the lower RH foot control mount. Due to the mounting method of the chain rubbing strip it is also required to have a replacement foot control frame. Please contact your dealer to enquire about purchasing the following parts if your are interested;

P/N 6080124 - RUBBING STRIP, CHAIN, TUBULAR FOOT CONTROLS

AND

P/N 6080048 - FOOT CONTROL FRAME, RH, BLACK

or dependant on your model

P/N 6080101 - FOOT CONTROL FRAME, RH, DUAL SEAT

Hello Simon , I do not have a dual seat. I appreciate the feedback with the part numbers. In your estimation is this a worthwhile update ? It seems like it could be . Thanks for your help and advice... Tony
