Royal Purple just announced a new formulation with a higher dosage of ZDDP additives than what API calls for.
It's the synthetic made for older and performance cars. It's also less expensive than their racing formulation (XPR)
The new product is call HPS
Here's a link to their info page:

I think I'll get some ordered up tonight.

The last quart of Riyal Purple I got required a second mortgage. I use to think Mobile One was expensive...

Or you can just add ZDDP Additive to your favorite oil. Available on E-Bay. I put in 2 oz. per oil change.

So, would 10-40 be fine of this new all synth Royal Purple for our Commandos, or still stay with 20-50

Valvoline Premium with with the highest specs of a CJ rating covers all bases ZDDP etc..,, lowest ash level available, your oil stays cleaner.

First you need to establish what ZDDP content (if any) your favourite oil has. Flat tappet motors work best with a 1100 - 1300 ppm of ZDDP, any more is wasted. Personally I'm skeptical of after-market canned solutions. The oil makers blend their ingredients to a formula and process and I don't know if pouring 2 oz that stuff into your bikes oil tank is really any good or about as useful as pouring it down the dunny.

agreed,

Home made diy chemistry is best left to meth heads.
Methinks I'll let professionals brew up what's in the oil I put in my machinery.
