My new SF just arrived at Gold Coast. It is my second SF

I am going to race this new unit on the AHRMA circuit. AHRMA folks are considering which class it will be raced. One of the possible classes will be the Thruxton Class, which would be great to have one new modern Norton against a whole class of modern Triumphs.

I want to get a set of the short. loud pipe sold in the UK, but cannot purchase here in the states. Anyone in the UK or Canada that could help with access to the short pipe would be appreciated?

Really?
Will this be in earnest, or just to circulate about for fun?
From what I hear, the Thruxton series can be very competitive.

Just curious G81, you bought the bike on Long Island and live in Florida??? Were they the closest that could get you one, or best deal?
Are you having it shipped or picking it up, some of us Northeasters might want to be there to meet and congratulate you!

Hey Old Friend,
First time I've been back on the Norton website since I picked up the new T214 Bonnie in January. Have already put over a 1000 miles on her and am pleased so far but miss the performance envelope I enjoyed many years ago so am seriously thinking of adding a Daytona 675R to the stable. Sorry we couldn't hook up in January (I didn't get up to Daytona for Bike Week either). Regardless, good luck with the new Norton (guess Barber is in the future?)
Cheers,
Ollyoop1

I would think the Norton would destroy the Thruxtons. Way more power and way better suspension.

the Achillies heel of the 961 is the gearbox, there are a whole bunch of false neutrals in there! I've done some track time on mine and red lining it through the gears when you hit a long straight is not for the feint hearted. It should out handle and out power the Thruxton but I think a number of 961's might be out with blown engines.

The 952 used a Sportster gearbox. I'm not sure what they use in the 961 but it's probably similar.

Well. in earnest is a relative term. I will be 62 years old this year, so I guess I will not be a serious contender on the Moto GP circuit LOL But I did have an expert plate back in the 70's (albeit all in the dirt) I do ride with some very accomplished AHRMA riders (normally on the podium). They all tell me that I should be competitive with the riding skills they have observed. There are quite a few guys over 50 in AHRMA, there is even a guy in his 70's racing, so I won't be the oldest guy out there
As far as Thruxton class, I have also been told that it is quite competitive. The AHRAM officials were not sure which class the 961 would run in, but Thruxton was mentioned. I just thought it might be interesting to run a 961 in a modern Triumph class, but I might be out of my league in that class.

New York is about as close as any dealer. There are no Norton dealers in the Southeast. I purchased from Gold Coast because they seem to be doing a good job of support, at least what I read here. I will have new pipes installed at GC and have the remap done before shipping it down. But I may come to GC to inspect the bike before shipping (one of my biggest customers is in North Jersey and I am up there every month) I will PM you or post if I decide to do this. It would be great to meet some of the NE guys. There is a Jersey owner of a 961 that I communiczte with on Facebook. He just but on a set of SB pipes Sidenote: You coming to the Norton rally in Ashville in July?

We will get together soon I am in Cocoa at least once a month. I will make the next trip on a Friday and trailer down the 961 and the CNW and we will find a good dive bar in Cocoa or Titusville.

My transmission has behaved quite will so far, but have not pushed it "track hard". I will let you know how it fares

Anyway my plans are to try and make all AHRMA races in 2016. Kind of a bucket list thing

Sounds like great fun.
I raced back in the day too. WERA/AAMRR road racing in the 70's.
Best of luck, and I hope you share your experiences with us all.

GC is under new ownership, but they seem to be carrying on pretty much as before.
