The A65 intermediate gear appears to run slightly proud of the cam and crank gear by about 1/16". It will not go any further into the case because it bumps up against the crank bearing boss. It appears that the intermediate gear floats a little though there is no wear marks on the case or timing cover.
I would guess there would be a hardened washer behind the IG to keep it from hitting the case though there is nothing in the manual. However, the manual - Haynes- is REALLY poor.
What do you folks think?
Also, is there a very good manual for the A65 available? Even on line it's junk.

I shaved off some metal on the crank bushing boss, now the gear fits like it should and the inner case fits all around. The big question is why the interference between the IG and the case. The other pair of cases needed the same thing.

The parts manuals I have show no shim or hardened washer for the intermediate (idler) gear.
