I wanted to get some insight to what the members have here, as far as the status of their STREET/Road Commandos.

I set up the poll to allow 2 votes for those with more than one Commando; if you have more than 2, use poll selections applicable to your most frequently ridden 2 bikes.

It's just a simple poll, NOTHING personal, and no matter what sub-model or year COMMANDO.

NOTE TO MEMBERS: This poll does NOT tie a member's votes to their member name, so NOBODY KNOWS who is answering what, regarding their bikes (so nothing to worry about that it will allow someone to know what bike you have).

I was curious about the above statement, because you mentioned it. Looking through a conversation related to the matter, on the XenForo Forum Software support site, the XenForo software does keep track of who has voted by their username, so maybe it is possible to see some level of information regarding participation in a poll.

Why don't you try giving away a prize of some kind? Perhaps a poll set up to track the voting and a $20 Starbucks gift card would get you more responses.

Hi,
I was totally surprised when I saw I was the only one that ticked the ‘original‘ box.
Have I misinterpreted the question? Perhaps I should have ticked the ‘restored to original’ box.
Yes, I know the engine has been apart because when I bought it, it had a box of used engine bits that came with it (pistons, rings, bearings)
I believe the tank has been repainted.
It obviously has had some bits replaced such as cables.
I have reduced the master cylinder diameter, it does have a Boyer ignition fitted and it has a quartz halogen bulb in the headlight. Yet to my eyes it is still an extremely original bike.
I think if this discussion was reduced to it’s essence we would eventually approach the paradox of Theseus’s Ship which basically asks the question that if you continue to replace parts when does the original cease being the original, or perhaps to put it more prosaically, the case of my grandfather’s 100 year old axe, it’s had 2 new heads and three new handles .
So, by my estimation I think that a bike is original if it has never been subjected to a total tear down to it’s individual components where any part that is showing any wear is replaced or restored. A bike is original if during it’s life, the wear and tear of normal riding means that components are replaced with ‘like for like’.
I guess if you think about it, even you and me are not original as every cell in our body has been replaced many times over during our life time.
Anyway, I didn’t intend to morph this thread into a philosophical conundrum but to achieve accurate results from the little survey does need a little explanation.
Anyway, I believe my bike is ‘original’ for what it’s worth.
Regards all
al

"Your vote will be publicly visible"

If I click on each vote option the usernames show even when I'm logged out so I don't think it's because I'm the moderator.

As Bertram Hainy of Green Acres fame told Mr. Douglas when he tried to sell him the very hatchet that George Washington used to chop down his father’s cherry tree :
” The handle has been replaced and so has the head but it occupies the same space “

I tend to forget things like vernier ISO's, EI, horn, etc. simply because they are.
Then you get into bearings, chain & sprockets, and so on. Well it looks close, except for my favored exhaust right down to rust on the rims..... new stanchions. The motor and tranny are as they came at least be that a blessing or a curse. Anyway it all boils down to opinion.

Well I voted Commando/Featherbed frame so ticked the last box for me, ultralight ride I will give a miss, do enough flying on the bikes lol, beer sounds good but at $20 don't even get a full box for that price here, the GOV keep putting the TAX up on beer hopping we all give up drinking (bastards) or live a healthier life so we all work longer so they don't pay us a pension.

Hey Shane,
Does that motor run as good as it looks?
Very nice!
Mike

I am struggling what to put mine down as, I bought it almost stock, original, but to then put it safely onto the road I replaced a few bits and pieces
tyres & tubes , forks & yokes
brake disc, master cylinder, caliper & hose
handlebars
headlight glass, LED bulbs, wiring harness
fuel taps & hoses
wheel bearings front and rear, both axle shafts, drive chain,
CNW starter setup, so new clutch, belt drive, chaincase inner, air filter
lithium battery, electronic ignition, solid state rectifier, single 12v coil
new exhaust pipes, new peashooter silencers, new cotton reel mounts everywhere
oil filter, new hoses, new clips, replaced most nuts and bolts with stainless

I‘ve still got the original clutch cable does that help?

I think I’d better tick them all bar the last
