Most common engines

A little digging on the www. looks like it sold for £8600 Feb 2019.. Now on with different seller but with the same description and photos. Could be first sale fell through, so why different Account? or the new buyer found something up with it..

Or a scam???

There’ll be a few somethings up with any uncompleted project on sale.

Projects (as we all know) are purchased with the best of intentions...

If that motor (with that head) and gearbox are actually sorted, with all that's there, that's still not a bad starting point for a hot rod at that price.

Also, the economy isn't quite what is was in February. Prices have been dropping for a couple years and several Nortons/Tritons have been up for sale currently and not meeting similar/lower reserves.

Worth a drop in to suss it out in person, for sure.

I have been lurking around for a while and have noticed prices dropping, Same goes for RD350lc's and there hybrid brothers even my old cars Money isn't there anymore.. I will watch it with interest and have already bid, it's an 8 hour drive so a bit far to just drop in.. ;-) I have my eye on and have already been to see a 56-57 bike, owner wants to much money for her IMO.. ;-)

Tritons tend to be advertised at absolutely crazy prices. I cannot believe they go for anywhere near that.

A mate of mine sold a really well sorted (not shiny, but sorted) pre unit, 750, 5 speed, wideline about a year ago for £6500. So I cannot believe these chancers are getting the silly advertised prices.

Come to Aussie land prices for older British bikes have gone through the roof and some prices they are asking for them is beyond the normal person reach, I stopped looking for cheap project bikes from ebay and any other bike advertisers now because of the high prices, but then are they getting the money for what they are asking for them.
A mate of mine sold his hardtail Triumph 650 bobber bitsa for $12000 and it was nothing special about it, the only good thing on it was the ex 650 police special motor and Joe Hunt Maggie, everything else was bits and pieces from stuff he had laying around with a raddle can paint job.
Some people just have to much money or they are just suckers for punishment or they been told by their other half to get rid of them so they put a high price on them hoping they don't sell, who knows.
I brought my new 1200 Thruxton cheaper than some of the prices for just a average Norton, even swap meets prices are becoming a joke here.

Cool!

Any thoughts or decisions ?

What did he advise?

My guess is: unit 750cc, squished head, lightweight valves, 3134 cams, 32mm carbs, belt drive and 5 speed box?

No we just talked about the bikes in general and a bike i am interested in, What should be done and the associated costs involved.. I don't want a Unit motor so even if someone did advise getting one I wouldn't be interested unless there were good reasons for doing so.

Cams were mentioned and also lightweight valves and we talked about the top end oil feed upgrade and belt drive but these were already in my mind...

The only argument for a unit motor is that it’s stronger. The crank cases are stronger, as is the gearbox casing. But on the road it’s purely academic.

This would normally look like a scam with it for sale again and a copied listing, ie a nicked listing and account. But it's his only listing and they normally list quite a few low ball items when operating this scam so maybe ok, would still need checking (£120 postage to France ?).

Postage to France? I see £70 postage via Royal Mail first class, that’s a good service that is!

Also, the text seems to suggest he’s had it 9 years whereas Morgy says it changed hands earlier this year.

I can see zero evidence of the purchase. In fact all of his feedback is from sellers with 1000s of sales, big stores, and mainly for ribbons and similar craft materials.

NONE of the above is proof of any wrongdoing of course, but they’re all little alarm bells...

I have put a few bits on and will bid up to my prefixed amount i think it's worth but would only collect in person and check everything before handing over cash... Anyone who would trust it to be posted would be insane IMO...
Also to add.... I have messaged a few times now and got a response the first time very quickly, other messages have sent asking for more photo of the other items included in the sale and info on the bike and if the bike has been advertised before since then not had a reply..

Could be the guy that bought it just copied the listing he bought it from, why not? He's looking to make some money. I'm guessing well over $7,500 US

Just the head and front brake are worth several thousand dollars...

No.. I had/have a max 5k for my project... I actually bid up to 6.7k with a mind to go up to 7k going into my 35lc engine rebuild fund.. But it got bid over that.. I have the feeling it will be back on ebay very soon..

Why do you think it’ll be back on eBay?

It has some good gear. Looking at what some other pile of sh*t ‘barn finds’ go for, it still looks a good buy for someone.
