I have two Commando clients and both have a 73 Commando 750's with drum brake. All three numbers match on both bikes and both still have the original 5" headlamp but now wear roadster clothing. Frames are pre 850 style but both have the 850 style boxed swing arm. Both were made in March/73 and their vin' #'s are: 235010 and 235280. Neither has the world symbol on the beginning and end of the engine number. It seems Norton was using up 750 parts on the Highriders . There seems to be no record or reference for the 235 prefix number that I can find in the literature.
Cheers Robin

There have been a few previous discussions about the '235xxx' serial number Commandos and it does seem that many were built as Hi-Riders although the '750 short stroke' engines and also a few later 850 MkII Commandos have 235xxx serial numbers:

Hello,
I have a 1973 Norton Commando HI rider with front drum brakes that was converted over to a roadster. You stated that one of the bikes serial # was 235010 with a March 1973 build date. My serial # 235307 had a build date of February 1973. Question, my bike has a higher serial number then 235010 and should have a later build date? I thought all the serial numbers were in consecutive order to the build dates? All three of my numbers also match each other. I also don't know what type of frame I have?
