This has been discussed, a lot, in various places.In almost all countries, it is now mandatory to have a rear brake lamp.Unless the vehicle in question is really ancient..Wiring diagrams back (30s and 50s) then often showed the brake lamp in dotted lines, as an optional extra.About 1954 (ish)(?), was fitted as std from the factory.The parts appear in the parts books too.I'd comment that anything that assists in not getting rear ended has to be a good thing..... !I have an axle from a dommie that has taken a hefty hit from behind, and this can't have been pleasant...
