In 1986, prior to my ownership, my MKIII was modified and fitted with a Timken 99403 taper bearing kit. The past two MOT's have noticed that the swing arm has slight play in it. I can adjust the bearings but the play comes back. Does anyone know if this kit is still available, if not, what life do you get out the standard setup, as I might just revert it back to original.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the original sintered bronze bushes in my opinion.
Does your Timken bearing spindle fit the cradle the same as the original MkIII (twin cotter) arrangement, because play is often the result of the spindle becoming loose in the cradle.

Cheers LAB, that's the one thing I have not checked. I'll remove the right hand side and test it, if its solid I think I will revert it back at easter when I'm next home.
