The MK3 swing arm appears to be much stronger than the MK2 or earlier swing arm. Has anyone fitted the MK3 arm to a MK2 850 cradle?
Also if a MK 3 cradle is used instead, would it be reasonably compatable with the MK2 engine and frame, perhaps with some mods?

The Mk3 swingarm will fit a Mk2 cradle with no modification. Just use the Mk2 or Mk2A swingarm spindle. However, realize that the Mk3 swingarm does not have a slot for the drum brake backing plate so you would need to make provision for locking the backing plate tab to the swingarm or use the Mk3 wheel, sprocket, disc brake, master cylinder, spindle, etc.

To use the Mk3 engine cradle with a Mk2 engine and transmission, you would need to cut slots for the adjustment of the top transmission bolt and drill a hole for the adjuster bolt.

I have a '73 850 fitted with a mkIII swing arm and cradle. Bolted on just needed to slot the cradle for adjustment on the left side plus added an extra adjuster for the belt drive.

You could just beef up your existing swing arm that's what I did with mine but not too much heat those arms are easily distorted!!
