I just finished pulling off my primary cover and found both of the black rubbing blocks (feet?) had come loose from the automatic tensioner and were laying on the bottom of the primary.
I have never seen this before.
How would I go about re-attaching them to the tensioner?

I have a MK3 as well, had several. but have never seen the blocks come off---grooved yes. I don't think it would be worth the trouble to try to reattach ---superglue or ? probably best to get a new set and be done with it. Check the chain good for roughness--and ? what oil are you using? Make sure the spring and nylon button inside the tubes are free and not sticking--pre fill with oil when assembling and make sure the paper gasket is behind the body.
Perhaps someone else may have something to add here to help you.

The hydraulic tensioner works fine, and the blocks are barely grooved.

From investigating further, I can only assume that they were attached with glue.
I'm going to try to re-glue them.

Might be worth a try. Not sure if these were cold bonded or vulcanized/moulded on from factory. I have a couple old grooved ones--will check and see--when I find them.

Yes they are expensive.
Old Brits has them for $69.37 each.

I just finished pulling the tensioner out and gluing the pads back on. Man, what a P.I.T.A. with all of that electric start sprag stuff in the way!
I glued them back on with weatherstrip glue, it's made to hold rubber to metal.
We'll see if it's gonna work after I ride it, they seem to be holding pretty good so far.
