Mk111 Project

Installed the 2 new Wassell carbs and today dialed them in to run quite well.
Drove downtown with Alma on the back seat.
Ran very well but had trouble shifting up into second gear on several occasions.
Got home ,pulled the plugs and colour was good , leaner than the old Amals which was what I was hoping for.
Pulled off the shift lever and repositioned it from a horizontal position to a more downward angle.
Test ride showed easy shifts into second and all gears.
Fixed the speedo drive unit with gel Krazy glue as the bronze end piece was drifting out of the body.
Polished up everything , no leakages.
More compliments from a few people walking by , in a few hours Ontario enters another lockdown with stay at home orders and stores to be closed ...

Today April 30 th 2021 , completed my primary rebuild. New IWIS chain , duplex. Found black plastic bits from the Stator wires shrouding , in the bottom of primary. From where it sits at 5 o'clock outboard area. No metal bits or shavings at all. Also whilst in there fitted another steel clutch plate inboard to achieve a better clutch stack height. Fitted a clutch tab washer behind the clutch washer as I found the nut slightly loose. Peened it down over both. Fired up the bike with the choke on full as the 2 days of rain stopped and moved to wind and snow squalls. Drove around the hood with happiness. Clutch much easier to pull in. Motor ripped up the hood. Cold.

Yeah, I found the same on my 3 yo RM24 stator. The black plastic was all super brittle and cracking right down to the potting. Used black silicone rtv to repot the end, and then oil resistant heat shrink up the wires and out the primary.

Can you recommend a brand/part number for heat & oil resistant heat shrink tubing?

IIRC what I got here in NZ is Raychem DR-25 Diesel & Fuel Resistant Heat Shrink. Don't know how it stacks up long term, it was available.

Now you have me thinking about that new stator.
Maybe this a US product (but available here) could go over the stock covering, it looks to have oil resisting qualities also.

Dunno. Fiberglass? I would.think the Raychem DR-25 or a Hellermann Tyton SE28 might be better.
