Hi All. I'm new here. Great, informative forum. Quick question (hopefully).
Can anyone tell me what Mk III Roadsters had the silver Norton logo on the rear and which bikes had the gold logo? I need to replace mine (black tank and side covers with gold striping.) I know the gold logo would probably look better, but I'm going for authenticity.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My MK III has gold on the back of the seat, but it is a seat off an older bike. I have seen a bunch of pictures of MK III's and, as I recall, all the black and gold had gold lettering on the back of the seat.

Thanks. I suppose the silver was for a different color combination. There is a silver logo seat on ebay that would work, but I guess I'll pass. Thanks for the help.

I have a feeling that all the OE seats started off with gold but as it gets faded and a bit 'rubbed' the gold colouring becomes less noticeable and they start to look silvery. I've had several like that.

I suspect that any brightly painted silver logos are a bit of more recent 'detailing'

Yeah, but it looks like you can buy replacements in either silver or gold. If silver is simply faded gold, then why would they sell new ones in silver? Inquiring minds want to know....

Interesting thread. There are a lot of new covers out there with silver lettering, but the only original one I remember seeing is the ''73-'74 royal blue metallic (850) which had had silver tank and side cover striping and decals. I remember this one because my '73 MkV 750 is blue metallic, but has gold decals and seat lettering (no striping).

It would make sense that the striping color would determine the logo color. Maybe the mystery is solved...
