After my recent battery failure I'm thinking about what is the best way to secure the battery ? It's hopping about with the stock pad and strap. Stock tray.

Not tried it myself, but the wide velcro is meant to be good.
It is !

It works great and probably provides more vibration insulation than your average slab of rubber.

I use an elastic etc velcro strap as well for ‘belt n braces’ security.

If the Mk3 battery tray was based off the previous model (Mk1A) Mk2A attachment points for the strap that seems to be the problem.

The Mk3 tray might (or not) differ not having its Dzus fastener in the lower rear corner like the A models. The Dzus receptor location pushes the strap attachment forward so it is on an angle across the top of the battery longer side being mounted across the frame.
No wonder it can wobble.
I ended up making a North South hold down bar on a new tray that attaches to the stock item.

The earlier battery trays seem better with the battery held down across its narrower side with a support at the inner side.

Not much help but the Velcro fold over straps are good but design seems flawed to start with if it is the same as the A models as above

Yes, the 850 Mk3 is basically the same although, personally I haven't found the reinforced strap to be a problem as seems to hold the battery securely enough on my Mk3.

The Mk3 doesn't have the Dzus at that location but the hook for the strap is in the same place.
