Excuse my ignorance, but did you have to drill then tap or did you just run the tap thru the existing hole ?
Make sure whatever "ball" style mirrors you buy, have two or three screws located around the ball. These screws allow you to "lock" the ball, once you have them adjusted properly. They also allow for "take up" of wear in the ball socket. Stay away from the genuine "Harley" mirrors, as they are pricey and do not have these adjusting screws. My buddy is in the process of replacing the mirrors on 3 Harleys right now, due to this poor design. The ball sockets wear and then the weight of the mirrors causes them to flop around. No proper way to fix them.
FYI, most Harley mirrors are 5/16". Most UJMs use 10mm threaded stems.
Hi Rhys, no I just ran the tap through. 10mm is about 0.5 larger than 3/8. I know it’s not very professional, but they are not critical, and could always have helecoil thread inserts put in them if I decided to go Back to 3/8” unf.
