The needle retaining plate part #7 in the Mikuni tuning / parts on line chart that sits under the spring & on top of the slide has a tab bent down that was in the groove where the cable goes through. It also has a 2nd hole in it that does nothing if assembled as shown in the parts diagram. Is this the correct way it goes? If it's turned over with the tab sticking up, the cable could be put through the 2nd hole and be locked in the correct location in the slide too. This seems more logical to me but I have very little experience with Mikunis so don't know. Also mine has no markings at all except a MIK on the body. It is very old I know but shouldn't it say if it's a 32, 34, 36 etc??? Thanks. Glenn T.S.

Tab goes down, in the slot.

This is the VM 28 plate but the VM 32-34 plate may be different?

Thanks guys. Yes mine is differant L.A.B. But same concept. Mine has only one tab but also has a 2nd hole that is offset. It truly could work either way just seems odd. Also mine has two springs coiled togeather I assume to make the throttle stiffer. Was this a common thing? I've been using it this way for 7 years and it is a bit stiff. I'm going to reassemble it with only one just to try it.

Hmmmm.. Thanks again L.A.B. I think I will be leaving the 2nd spring in. Must have been put in by the P.O. For that reason, it's been that way for many 1000s of miles & the stiffness has never bothered me.
