Hm, I had assembled it that way because the flats on the studs key to the oblong holes in the race plate. I disassembled to try it again, but if I try to fasten the studs straight to the backplate, they protrude this much until the backplate comes to rest on the shoulders of the studs,[ATTACH=full]66269[/ATTACH]and the race plate does not fit properly against the inboard side of the same shoulders. Am I missing something about what you're describing?
