Magnum Tuner - what is it?

I checked almost every review on their site. I think they are tampered with. Bikes in the US like a Peugeot Diesel and other Chinese bikes just not adding up in my opinions. The only Norton was a rotary. I'm certainly not going to be a guinea pig.

This tuning unit may be legit, but it is not designed for the Norton 961 alone.
If you enter a different manufacturer/model, the text is automatically updated to include the new model name along with the same generic description text.
I wouldn’t consider buying one until there is clear evidence from a Norton owner that the unit actually works.

The claims seem patently ridiculous:
17% increase in HP and torque
22% faster acceleration
All this on a Norton just buy dialing in the mixture – I seriously doubt this.
Better throttle response, and fuel mileage – perhaps.

HI , Is the Power Commander available to us now ? The unit that was developed in the UK ? One of the forum members (Member Rojah) had it installed and posted the dyno improvement. It would be great if that was now available for purchase.

I'm interested in the PC also.
I haven't heard anything since the report from forum member Rojah about the improvements the PC made on his 961.

Hi guys,

I E-mailed Dyno Jet in the UK a few weeks ago re-affirming previous requests of them to produce a kit for the Norton 961. Their response was brief and stated that they where still looking at it. I reiterated that there was a relatively large user community that would be very interested in this. I guess that we can only wait and hope for this to occur.

Magnum Tuning US is still out there. Hasn't anybody tried one of these and did they work. Positive feed back on their website, but I would trust it more if I read it here!

Just my two cents but, if your 961 has an SCS Typhoon ECU:

1. Either send your ECU to SCS and have it unlocked, or buy a new Delta 400 ECU
2. Download the SXTune software from SCS
3. Find a dyno tuner in your area willing to work on a Norton, and get a good dyno tune done professionally. Unless you're a competent EFI tuner yourself, you’re likely to just make matters worse

There's no free lunch in the world of engine tuning.

Thanks I am completely ignorant to the ways of a ECU and hope to stay that way. I'll pay someone to do it! I just want to correct the lean fuel problems. We don't have emissions ck for motorcycles. All those dinosaur's gave their lives so I can smell them burning!!!

Well, lcrken has done some testing, and adjusting of the EFI setting using the SXTune app.
Hopefully he'll chime in on this thread.
Do you know at what RPM the lean condition exist?
You'll need to know in order to make adjustments to the ECU fuel map.

Regarding Dynojet and even Vance and Hines. Why would they even think about providing a tuner for an ECU that's already capable of tuning? You also need to look at the sparse amount motorcycles sold and then two different ECU systems installed on the motorcycles and it is even a smaller amount.

So short story is don't hold your breath this late in the game. It actually cheaper to have it tuned with the current ECU and have the map tweaked if needed than buy all the gear that comes with a power commander or Dynojet including the sensor packs or upgrade to the newer SCS

Regarding tuning, the factory maps work fine. Typically its other issues that are causing problems. Even things like low voltage at start up have contributed to the issues of idle and rough running. We have have spent some time dealing with the SCS units and have been happy with tuneability of the idle and low rpm range if needed.

Go back to first principals. My suggestion is to really look at those issues before even messing with the ECU besides performing the proper idle reset. If the throttle position is off then it will throw the whole map off as well.

That said there is no substitute for have proper sensors reading while under load to compare with the factory files.
