"Madass" MC brake light switch...(2017)

Installed the Madass MC a year or two back to replace my sleeved stock MC that would seize in very hot weather and it works great....however recently the case of the BL switch began to separate and this caused the switch to not engage the brake lever correctly so the light would stick on intermittently, a dangerous situation. This could be a one off problem for all I know but FWIW a Honda switch for a 2015 CB500X (and probably a zillion other bikes) fits perfectly, appears to be better quality with a bigger button and no horizontal case seam. The switch that came with the MC is marked YYX, the Honda item is branded Alps and was about $10 online.

I had the same part fail on me last week. Manage to bodge it back up again but thanks for the info!

Hmm, BC I noticed you purchased your mastercylinder from me just over 3 years ago.
What happens in 3 years of use is any ones guess, I'll have to lift my game.

I got inside it and found the lever piece, acting against the pin and triggering the circuit connect when depressed, had bent, likely from 3 years fatigue. It is a thin metal part (U shaped) with a tongue section reaching to the pin. Some corrosion evident but not on the affected part. I straightened it and re-assembled but have ordered a backup to be on the safe side.

no problem...BTW, I should have posted the Honda part #, it is 35340-MGS-D31

For what it is worth I think Matt at Colorado Norton works found that some of the switches in the brembo master cylinders were failing as well and has since gone to a different and better switch. You might want to contact him and see which one he found to be the best.

Hi, I cannot find anywhere female connectors to fit these switches. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

The original front brake light switch wires would have been a white and a brown with 1/4" 6.3mm female spade connectors.
Edit: The next smaller size is 4.8mm (if that's the size they are?) and should be available from almost any auto-electrical parts supplier.

Wonky,
These connectors are readily available here in the US. I can send you some if that helps but I think any electronics store in NZ will have some for you.

Bluto,
I think it is great that you found a replacement switch but have no idea how you found it.Where do you start?
Thanks,Mike

Cycle parts commonality. The vendors that supply Kaw/Hon/Suz/Yam/Tri and others all offer same stuff. I used a Suzuki front brake switch when my Kawi one crapped. How? Keeping my eyes open when around all bikes.

Worth a search on the Repco website. In NZ they have decent f crimp bullets and blades available in some stores but not out on display. May be the same is Aus?

Reviving this thread for a related question. For those using Don's master cylinder setup, what did you use for brake hose? I need to mate the M/C male thread to our standard Commando junction at the fork leg bracket and would like stainless braided hose.

If you've been down this path would you share your wisdom? Don's website is correct in noting that a low cost, low weight purchase may be cost foolish.

EDIT: Pic of the M/C and threaded insert:

Doesn't Don's kit come with all the needed hose and fittings? The re-sleeve kit I got from him had a stainless hose included.

+1, my kit came with a braided hose that connected the new MC to the stock junction on the fork leg, it can be seen below...

Not at the time I purchased the kit (May of 2019). Mike I will take you up on your generous offer - PM incoming.

Thanks to all for your responses. This group is absolutely fantastic. I also learned something about AN3 brake fitting and more.
